Quin Snyder Appreciation Thread

I feel like Quin (one n!) isn't getting enough love for how this team has played. His coaching has been amazing all season, and while some of you don't like his offensive scheme, you can't deny that he has been amazing in every other facet of the game.

In the first round so far it is clear that Snyder is out-coaching Billy Donovan completely. His adjustments game-by-game and during each game have been great. I'm @Stoked that we have him as our coach and think he deserves some love right now.

Thoughts?

I'll eat crow. i was extremely frustrated early season when the current lineup just couldn't score. And in my defense, there are still times they struggle. Utah, even in their victories, has overcome early double-digit deficits. But his work with Rubio and Donovan has been nothing short of amazing. And you look back to George Hill's career year last season. It's clear Quin puts players in position to excel and works with them on 1 or 2 things they can master.

I was talking to my buddy at work today and I said I think the Jazz are going to be a "playoff" team. And I went on to explain that I thought with Quin (one n) Snyder (also one n) the Jazz would be better in the playoffs, with time to prepare and develop a game plan against a specific opponent, than they would be in the regular season. Now, I think this team will be amazing in the regular season, but I think Quin's planning and preparation is going to make the Jazz a postseason force for many years to come, even as players come and go.

I like that I am now an adjective for being hyped.

Quin Snyder is a good coach in that he was able to build an entire system around one player (Rudy Gobert). But if Rudy gets in foul trouble or injured, the entire system goes to ****. He needs to figure out a plan B.

Wrong.

He's a top 5 coach in the NBA in my opinion. I'm a big Quin fan and I'm glad he's coaching the Jazz. I think that he made a huge error in Game 5 by subbing Rudy back into the game with 4 fouls in the 3rd qtr, but everyone makes mistakes.

As a fan of the Jazz and Basketball in general, it doesn't get better than Quin Snyder now days. I put him up there with Pop and Stevens and believe that he will crack his way into the legends of the past.

If the threes aren't dropping we need a plan B. So, sick of idea we were just off that you can't do anything to change a bad shooting night. You can most teams attack quit shooting threes if they are not making them.

I have by far been the most vocal critic of his offense but now it looks like a thing of beauty. He has found a way to get every player's strengths involved, and for the team to gel.
Yes at times it does. But, there are times it is a complete mess with no plan B. No post play from Favors. No off ball screens to spring players. Just having wings stand in the corner for threes. But, if the threes aren't falling players still going to chuck it.

You Exum people are insufferable.
Ignore function is your friend. There’s no point arguing with a brick wall and guys that want to troll around here (for whatever reason) aren’t worth the effort.

Exum should’ve played more when the Jazz were up. Donovan and Jingles were already gassed at that point and a break right then might’ve done them a lot of good in how we finI shed the game. Might not have changed the outcome, but I think there’s a chance that Dante and Jerebko could’ve helped slow the damage during that stretch.

Agreed. I think Quin did not adjust well to RW going off. A change of pace, a new defender, a different look, might have made the difference. Instead he watched them cut the lead to 15, took a time out and came back doing exactly the same thing, so the lead got cut to 6, time out, came doing the same thing. Finally after OKC were ahead 4 or so he put Rudy back in to stem the tide. Too little too late.

He needed to call a TO when the lead dropped to 18 and swap out a bunch of guys to give them a different look. Exum on Westbrook may have made a real difference. Fight over screens instead of going under them may have made a difference. Then on the other end of the court we get stand-and-watch basketball with 3 guys standing at the 3 pt line and 2 running behind each other and passing it back and forth until one of them takes 2 half-hearted dribbles into the teeth of the defense and either took a contested jumped or kicked it out for a contested 3 pt shot since our guys just stood there making it easy to guard them. With a new squad the offense could have picked up tempo, pushed the ball, gotten deflections.

But he tried the same **** and the same **** happened and we lost.

Hopefully they watch a LOT of film of this loss and our previous wins to drive into the team what they need to do. Hopefully they all, Quin included, learned their lessons.

Honestly, the only way Quin is a great (not just good) coach in this situation is if he had 100% confidence we could beat OKC at home and was told by management to throw the game away (for profit).

If that's not the case then Quin is at best a good coach. He seems to make good adjustments for the next game, but seems incapable of making good in-game adjustments. OKC's coach (Donovan) also seems pretty bad at making in game adjustments, so maybe Snyder finally did think of a plan but didn't want to give away his hand during the game. That way OKC won't be able to adjust the next game.

But honestly even if that's the case, in-game adjustments with a 15 point lead is still the better, as that should have been enough to win.

That had absolutely nothing to do with my post, but my avatar is a picture of Exum and since you have nothing better to say you'll just comment on that
No, it was based on your other comments in other threads.
