Can we is different than should we. We will only know until both of them show they are capable of playing defense. Yes Favors has shown flashes, but he is still extremely foul prone and raw. We really have no idea how good/bad Kanter is on defense at this point.

but we do know that millsap and jefferson are average at best defensively.

I would have to watch the kid play but reading some of Kanters problems he can't keep up with the big boys in the league. My guess is your looking at okur with a better back to the basket. I thought favors and big al did very well together on the court playing d. Jazz have not lost a game with favors as the starter and no matter who we get favors needs to start. I want to see a actual game on kanter because why people are so high on him is funny. Give me a game to watch him to play and i might get on board. I also worry about his health as well as some reporters are saying about his legs. I trust the jazz in picking who ever but for now I am going to say no because I need to watch the kid. But i don't see him doing any better then what we have unless he can push people off for rebounds and run the court.

A starting lineup of Kanter/Favors leaves us with no scoring. Kanter will be fine coming off the bench for a year or two. Trade sap before Al, IMO..not even close.

You mean that it would leave us with no scoring next year and not in a few years right?

I think Kanter will be able to score and will get to the line a lot in the NBA. I'm predicting he'll be like a slightly slower, bulkier Rony Seikaly.

Realistically, one player will play in the low post and the other in the high post. We can debate who should go where, but part of it depends on who has the better ability to pass, shoot, drive and wreak havoc from the high post.

BTW, not that it's related, but Montiejunas looks like a pretty ideal player to play in the high post. Last year everyone was talking about Greg Monroe's ability to pass and play the high-post in general, but Montiejunas looks to be a more talented player than Monroe. The only question with him is his effort towards defense and rebounding. That's where Kanter has the edge.

Plus Kanter has a nice NBA body IMO. Anyway, I think/hope Kanter can be at least a double double guy if he is able to eventually take a spot in the starting lineup a couple years down the road.

I think holding onto Jefferson under this scenario would be a problem. First of all, I think Jefferson is a starter in the NBA. He's not like a Milsap where he's going to come off the bench and give you instant energy in short spurts. He's a long-haul, grind it out type of player who tries to wear you down in the post as the game goes on. He's just not suited to come off the bench IMO.

That leaves the option of either bringing Favors or Kanter off the bench which I also think you cannot do. While Favors may not be a starter right this second, KOC certainly didn't trade D-Will just so we could bring him off the bench. And the 2nd part of that D-Will trade would be Kanter. You don't draft a guy with the #3 overall pick with the idea of making him a long term rotation player. He needs to be a starter, period.

I don't really think that's a problem. Big men usually takes a few years to develop fully. Favors didn't start until the end of last season. I say start Favors at PF and Jefferson at C for 3/4 of the coming season, with Kanter coming off the bench learning the ropes and see how that develops. Ease him into it a bit as he didn't play at all last year.

Next year Jefferson would be an expiring contract so who cares if he whines - I think expiring contract in the next CBA could be worth quite a bit. By then I think Kanter would be ready to start at PF and you simply move Favors over to C. Sign a solid back up PF/C next year if you have to.

im not stuck on which is 4 which is 5, but they have complimentary skills, they can certainly play together as front court

I mean for sure next year, and we have no promise of later scoring either. Al can hit 30 any given night. That was what I meant.

Al also gets 10 some games.....lets stick with averages. Al gets 20 a game, and not the most efficient 20. It comes at the cost of freezing out teammates. I think Harris, Hayward, and Millsap could easily make up for Kanter's drop off early on.

From Jazz's work out with Kanter today it seems the emphasis is on his offensive skills.

I don't think you would pick him on his defensive skills. The beauty of pairing him with Favors is that they have complementary skills, not duplicative skills (think Nowitzki & Chandler).

Would you have passed on Nowitzki because he can't block or defend?
