Following Potential 2018 Draftees

You definitely don’t not resign the dude who at the moment is probably your best bet to develop into the missing piece because of who you draft at #21.

If the money is on the table and we dont resign him that is one thing. We could choose to use that money on another option, resign Favors, etc.

We are hoping and somewhat expecting now that another team will not offer Exum a good deal.

Fair enough. The question should be,

Is Okobo better than Robinson, Huerter, Diop, etc....
I still haven't seen full game of his, but if the highlights hold up and there isn't anything out of the ordinary on the full game tape to drag him down significantly, I would say Okobo is tiers above those... as in... MULTIPLE tiers... (this is for me, i have no idea how NBA teams and scouts see him). He's my newest highlights crush.

It's easy to fall in love with highlights. I certainly have before, and in Okobo's case now I'm doing it again. There is a lot to like there offensively. Plus I see a swagger, alpha dog in him.

Multiples tiers seems like a stretch now though, but we'll see. If that's true then there is a chance he's not available at even #21.
Reminds me slightly of Mitchell's meteoric rise before last year's draft. Which is a good omen! He is peaking late in the draft process.

Any criticism about Young starts and ends with his lack of size. Everyone is pretty much in agreement he is elite in the skill department.

I don't think it starts and ends with lack of size. Defense, or lack there of, is a huge concern. Getting clamped up by bigger guards in the second half of the season is a huge concern because he's gonna face that every night in the NBA. For someone who supposedly has "elite" vision and skills averaging over 5 turnovers a game is a huge concern. I don't recall a single player with elite vision averaging 5 turnovers in ANY level of basketball.

Is anybody watching the conference finals? We desperately need wing defenders. Letting Exum go makes absolutely zero sense. Letting Exum go to keep Favors makes even less sense. That's like a poor man's version of OKC letting Harden go so they could keep Ibaka.

Exum stays regardless of who we draft.

Is it possible under the new CBA to sign + trade RFAs? (I remember something about needing confirmation from the player, but don't know the details)

Yes... player has to agree but that is a part of any sign and trade.

I have an Okoboner!

LoPo and I a devising a plan to get every first round pick after number 15... we will then draft everyone’s favorite player... seems like the only reasonable solution.

Oh I think I mixed up 2 situations. Under the last CBA a team could extend a player and trade him at any time, it was just that for the first half a year his salary cap only counted half for trade purposes. But now when a player is in the last year of his contract he has to give permission. Something like this.
Reason I bring this up is the question if Exum likes his prospects of earning valuable playing time next year with Ricky in a contract year and Mitchell trying what happens when he focuses more on playmaking. Giving Exum a long term extension that makes him happy despite a volatile situations in terms of role and playing time would mean overpaying him, idk if our front office is ready to do that. Maybe there can be a mutually beneficial situation where we trade him to a team that has no cap space and wants to see what he can do if healthy and get something in return that suits our needs.

I love this draft but I would rather have Kuzma than any of these guys. Mitchell loves him, he loves Utah, Utah loves him and he is exactly what we need offensively at PF.

If he isn't attainable, I'm with HH and wish we could add a few of these puppies...

He looks super comfortable tossing lobs out of the pnr (~2:10, section on hitting the roll man)... That bodes well for potential chemistry with Rudy.

Plus: his ability to pull up at any point in the process would really help keep defenders honest, rather than draping all over Rudy.

I am not as high as everyone else on Okobo.

His first step doesn't look great. Against NBA defenders he might not be able to get into the paint.
His handle is loose and high. Again against better defenders he probably will struggle.

I would rather draft someone like Troy Brown or Fraser who have the size to be effective defensively.
