I get that you found a way to actually match salaries but I doubt SA wants that junk drawer of players.

Rozier/Brown and picks, sure. The rest? Nah.

I don't know if San Antonio wants those players or not. I'm just telling you how it has to work if Kyrie, Hayward or Horford aren't part of the deal.

That's why everybody saying Boston can give the best offer needs to know the financials of the deal. In the summer, the Lakers could send Kuzma and Ingram and $10 million of savings to San Antonio. Boston doesn't have that luxury.
 
As awesome as that would be, I don't think they're trading Hayward. It's just a really bad look.

I don't think San Antonio wants Horford
I don't think Boston would trade Hayward and I'm uncertain of San Antonio's interest in Hayward

So it comes down to Kyrie. If Kyrie commits to staying in San Antonio, then you're right. If Kyrie won't commit, San Antonio doesn't want him. They aren't the type of organization to be strung around by a star two years in a row.

Purely my opinion and nothing more, but especially when it comes to getting a franchise changing guy like Kawhi, I would bet Ainge gives exactly 0 ****’s how it would look if they used Hayward to do it.
 
It would be a verbal commit since there's no way Irving is signing an extension and that has a ton of risk. I don't see Kyrie as having a ton of value for SA since it's rumored he may want to play in NY. SA is going to view Kyrie as a salary match and the key to the deal would be young assets. A fair price for an all-star is a couple of starters and/or lottery picks.

I'd ask for Tatum and the most favorable of Boston's picks next year. Of course, Ainge won't do that. So SA tells Danny Boy they're fielding offers from LA and whoever calls with the BO. Ainge then counters (maybe) with Brown and two 2019 picks (with at least one being the highest one). That would be a decent offer and satisfy SA's desire not to trade Kawhi to a team in the WC. Though Kawhi has all but demanded a trade, Buford has the leverage here. There are multiple teams that would want Kawhi. SA can afford to let a bidding war develop.

Even if Kawhi wants to go to the Lakers, SA can do what Indiana did. There are probably a few teams that might want to take a chance on convincing Kawhi to stay with them, especially if Buford drags his feet during free agency and the Lakers then fill their cap space with LBJ, George and DeAndre or Capela.I think that's a real possibility. SA doesn't want to do Kawhi any favors. He screwed them last season and has now told them to go pound sand. SA already said they're against trading him to a WC team. I think they want the Lakers avenue to close unless they're overwhelmed with assets.

#8 and Kevin Love for Kawhi would be very interesting.
#1 - no team can give the Spurs as high of a draft pick this year as Cleveland has with #8.
#2 - Kevin Love could have a ton of value for a team like San Antonio next to Aldridge.
#3 - the Spurs had a great year without Kawhi. Adding Love and #8 should keep the ball rolling there and there is that mix of youth with the 8th pick.

The Spurs would then trade Gasol to any team who will give an asset.

The Cavs would then trade Hill and Clarkson for Melo (to shed Clarkson's money for 2019/20 and make LeBron happy).

In 2019, the Cavs would have cap space to sign another good player (Chris Paul???) to add to Kawhi and LeBron.

I was with you until the last paragraph (or two): the Cavs would still have $30-something million tied up in JR Smith and Tristan Thompson, not to mention if the idea is to keep Lebron and Kawhi. In other words, for all intents and purposes of your scenario, they won't have cap space.

JR Smith and Korver are not guaranteed for 2019/20. With Clarkson gone, the only guys on the 2019 cap would be LeBron, Kawhi, Tristan Thompson ($18.5 million expiring), Cedi Osman ($2.9) and Larry Nance (qualifying offer Cleveland could decline).
