2018 NBA Draft Party - any word if the Jazz are hosting one?

I can't find confirmation that the Jazz are hosting a party. If I remember right, they didn't host one last year either and have been doing them less frequently lately. Anyone with connections to the Jazz know why or why not? Is it as simple as building availability or too much overhead for not enough return?

I have tons of good memories attending these over the years. Being there for the 2013 draft party (Trey Burke trade! Who is this Gobert guy? :) was a lot of fun, being there when Jimmer came off the board 2 or 3 spots before the Jazz in 2011 was a lot of fun, too.

What are some of your best memories of being at the draft party in person?

Unless there are last minute changes, there won't be one. Seems as if the current regime just aren't fans of it. It has certainly become less-often that they host it, and part of that is probably due to Larry's passing. If the Jazz really wanted to hold one, they would find a way to get it done. Perhaps others have felt a bit of a disconnect between the Jazz (as an organization) and the public lately? Either way, I think the Hayward debacle has played into it as well. It's been documented that that initial booing at the draft party stuck with him.

Also, from what I hear, a lot of things have changed with the arena/Jazz dynamic lately. Young Living just finished up their convention this past weekend and really, there's nothing scheduled that would interfere with a draft party at the arena. The next 'big' event is probably Kevin Hart at the end of the month.

How many other teams hold draft parties in their arenas? Jazz probably feel like hosting the RMR (or I guess it's now called the Utah Summer League) is enough for fans.

If I remember correctly the Jazz cancelled last years draft party because Vivint Smart Home arena was still undergoing remodeling at the time. And I think they cancelled in 2016 because of a scheduling conflict. I haven't heard anything about this year.

They didn't have a 1st round pick in '16....

Lindsey doesnt want distractions.

Jazz want to avoid another booing incedent like when we all booed The silent Cipher.

Which is exactly why they don't want fans present when Allen's name is announced.
and they are drafting Allen. i can feel it in the air.

love the draft parties. the most memorable one, perhaps because i'm old and it was fairly recent was the Lyles over Booker draft. I think a higher percentage of fans wanted Booker than any one guy at any other draft party. seemed almost unanimous. then they go and pick the guy with good balance. awesome.

I remember being there for the Dwill pick. We thought he would be the pick over Paul and fans seemed happy.

I never went to the party but I do remember occasionally tuning in to the radio feed that IIRC was at the party. Usually had access to spin. Was furious when we passed on Qyntel Woods for whoever it was we drafted, then KOC said trade for Borchardt. Was very pissed that year (before trade), but it’s funny because none of those three guys had any kind of career.

Also remember being super pissed about Lopez. Had looked into a number of those high school guys that year like Osman Cesse, then other guys like Omar Cook. Hah. None of anybody had any career (of the guys I wanted).

I vaguely remember someone yelling out “Marty Haws” prior to the Introduction of the Jazz pick at one such event. I think Scott Layden was on stage and he did not look amused.

I went the year they drafted Burke and was so upset about the trade I made my whole group leave early. I had voted that we would pick Shabazz though, and technically that was our pick. I found out later that I had won a drawing for it but I wasn't present so I lost out on some cool stuff.

Many years ago I was in the middle of a mid-west theme park vacation. I spent the day at Geauga Lake (RIP) and then attended the NBA draft that evening at the Cleveland arena. The crowd in Cleveland only booed 2 picks that year... Shawn Bradley and Luther Wright.

I've been to most of the draft parties in SLC and would probably go again this year. The last one I went to was when we drafted Exum and Hood. The year we drafted Burke I was hoping for CJ McCollum.
