It’s more than I thought but I’m not sure it makes me feel better or worse... morey wanted him.
Did the Jazz even pay Denver that much for the Rudy pick? (I know we traded the Erick Green pick to Denver as part of the deal)
Believe we paid $3M.
I know that 2nd round picks rarely do well, but I think you're being a bit silly here.
What Morey 2nd round picks have turned out well so far?
Montrezl Harrell is pretty decent for a 2nd rounder (Sam Dekker isn't good though). Chinanu Onuaku hasn't don't anything yet, Zhou Qi hasn't done anything. Isaiah Hartenstein isn't that good imo.
The best 2nd rounder he's taken recently was Dillon Brooks, who Memphis actually drafted! Now I think he did well drafting Melton (I wanted him), but lets not act like everything Morey does in the draft is gold.
So because he has missed 3 out of 4 times (2 up in the air still) this guy will be a bust? Morey isn't a bum... Was just stating I'm not sure if it makes me feel better or worse. Doesn't seem silly to me... clearly the guy wanted him. Wouldn't that make you wonder what you were missing if you were DL?
Did I say whether he would be good or bad? Don't believe I did.
The odds are that he won't be a very good player, but maybe he will. Morey obviously isn't a bum, but a 2nd round pick is a 2nd round pick...at a pick as late as 52, it's basically early UDFA. I trust DL to trust his evaluation. If they can get cash, then sign an UDFA that they don't think is worse, or that much worse, then that's a win. Shoot, take that money and go to Europe and sign more veteran role players like Udoh, O'Neale, etc. That's a market that doesn't get hit on nearly as much, and DL is killing it there. I like that method a lot better tbh.
We have a limited number of roster spots, and we took cash for a pick where DL clearly didn’t think there was a player worth taking.
It’s not a big deal. Even if Edwards turns out to be decent, the process still isn’t flawed. Late 2nd round picks, by and large, are irrelevant.

I agree.
Another thing people don’t even begin to think about is would we even have drafted Edwards if we stayed at 52? I doubt it.
I just can’t get excited about cash considerations... it’s a non cap/roster asset... If I knew that was going towards coaches or development staff to help actual on court stuff I guess I’d feel better.
I just want us to maximize every ounce out of our draft assets... isn’t like our draft board just ended and DL looked and said... no one is left.
