I thought most interesting thing about this was how Locke was completely focused skills he can see on tape and measurements Givony factors work ethic and rate of progress a lot more.

In other words Givony has watched these prospects for years and isn't cramming for the test like most draft analysts.

Givony states that Biyombo and Irving are his picks for most likely All-Stars in the draft.

Givony explains how Kanter and Mojetunas "don't play hard on defense or on many possessions" and how "he would draft Valaciunas and Biyombo over Kanter and Mojetunas".

Givony compares Valaciunas to Joakim Noah.

All in all the podcast reminded me how much I like Biyombo as a prospect. Of course if we trade down to 5-7 Biyombo makes more sense.

Givony actually watched games Kanter played in HS and said he did not dominate against mid-major competition at best. This is the same report that came from nbadraft.net "Played one year of high school ball at Stoneridge Prep in Simi Valley, California and was somewhat inconsistent." In other words, out of HS Kanter was not a great prospect at all. Yet, he had a great HS all star type game - Nike Summit. And that's all we really have on the guy. He never got any minutes in his crappy Euro league at 17 years old, and did well in juniors in Europe, as do many other young kids we never heard of. One that we did hear of was Koufos, who put up even better numbers than Kanter did. Enes is also middle of the pack athletically (https://www.draftexpress.com/article/Analyzing-the-NBA-Combine-Athletic-Testing-Results-3728/). After his underwhelming HS record and 1 great Summit all-star game, he actually couldn't even practice with the team this year, not to mention play games and develop. I just don't see all the excitement around this guy that others are seeing who think he will be the cornerstone of the franchise. We have one great all star game against a whole year of underwhelming HS performance against weak HSs. Then missed a year of ball all together. Is that enough to make the guy a top prospect? I am with Givony on this one.

Toronto GM just said Kanter was strong as a Bull. I wish I could interview these guys and watch them practice. I would be happy with either Kanter or Williams at 3. I would trade down to get Biyombo and get another asset. The Jazz would have two of the most unusual names in the NBA if they drafted Biyombo and Jimmer.

Where's the video? If he's willing to put his reputation on the line why not release snippets of what he's talking about so we can also be the judge?

Too easy to sit on the video and criticize. Where's the evidence?

And i'm with Borat on this one. The key to next level capability is ATHELITIC skill. If you don't have athletism you can survive on exceptional single skill like shooting. (Yes there are athletic players who are busts - stromile swift) How many un-athletic players are exceptional NBA players? It is my assumption, becuae of the limited info, that Kanter will not be athletic enough to EXCELL in NBA. Likely to be Darko. NBA player but not #3 worthy. I'm a little jaded right now on this topic becuase i'm watching DWade and Lebron who are in the leage of their own (with Kobe probably) But i wouldn't bet on Darko um, i mean Kanter.

Would you consider Nowitzki to be athletic? How about Boozer? I don't think you can say either of them are beast specimens.
I think you need a unique combination of athletic ability and skills to succeed in the NBA.

I don't buy that. The guy averaged 30 PPG in high school (at least according to one like I found from the Cleveland paper...don't know why those box scores are so hard to find). If that's inconsistent, sign me up because those big games must have been huge.

There is some footage from HS from him floating around. Granted it's one of those highlight reel tapes with generic highlight sort of music, but he looks like a man among boys. I will not be disappointed if they draft him, though a number of things won't disappoint me in this draft.

Just the Jazz luck...
If we draft Kanter = Average NBA Player
If someone else drafts Kanter = NBA All Star

Also throw in Kevin Love and Zach Randolph. Yeah those guys suck!

He also played on his national team's tournaments and dominated there as well. Including some pretty good games against Jonas V.

Kanter was supposed to have worked out directly against T. Thompson and Marcus Morris today. Interesting to see if any tidbits leak out.

You are right. I should have notetd when everyone is saying "he has all the skills" it would need to be skills + athleticsm as you note. So when watching D Favors against NBA players show some of the athleticsm, I'm convinced on that half of the equation. Watching Kanter in Nike Hoop summit video i'm convinced he has the skills - half of the equation.

I would consider Nowitski average athletically with EXCEPTIONAL shooting skill. Boozer is better athlete than Dirk but not as good of a shooter... Anohter sample was watching Shawn Marion at the Rocky Mnt Review. Against near-NBA players, he was so much man among boys, it was very clear of his skills. I just wish it was easy enough like that with Kanter. Maybe it is if I was privy to some workouts. But thus far, I think he's big risk.

Locke went robot in that introduction.

Givony has not been a fan of Kanter. Never will be. Does that make him biased in his comments? Maybe but his comments aren't off base.

I posted Motiejunas' highlights in some other thread, and I think he would be a great value pick at 12 if we don't draft a big man with 3.

Draft Express is the only mock to have Kanter at 6. Are the mock drafts supposed to be who they would take, or what the teams would take???
