It is partly their fault and the fault of the league for not explaining it well enough that they got it... the concept seems on the surface like the players would get screwed and they are likely and correctly skeptical of things that come from the league... they got they *** handed to them in the negotiations under Stern.

But yeah... guys that got screwed should be calling Michelle Roberts and asking WTF?

Next year will be a mini boom market... I’m worried we miss out or have to pay too much since so many teams will have space.

Its not the league's job to explain it to them. I bet it was explained in detail though. The players are just like children.. They arent smart enough to get it and will fight what is actually good for them.

When they wanted all the money right now. I thought it was pretty obvious what was gonna happen in the future. I dont know how they couldnt see it coming.

Which is why you have to dumb it down... I explain tax code to people all day and often find when people don’t understand it’s my fault... I live in the tax world they don’t... it’s like speaking Greek to them... sometimes I have to use pictures... nba knows who they are working with... use pictures. It’s a blame pie thing... mostly on the nba PA but a fail all around.

How exactly does this go down?

League: hey, guys, I know all you guys that may be out of the league in three years will be getting outrageous offers that will land you $50+M for being a fringe D-Leaguer, but if you guys take all that money now, there won’t be money left for the superstars and other guys who have way more earning potential than you guys. So show some restraint this summer and only take offers way below what you can get, so that your more talented rich buddies can earn more in a couple years.

How many of you would buy that? None of those guys shot themselves in the foot. You think Mosgov is regretting his payday?

Even if the players association bought in, how do they sell that to the players or even agents? Get what you can get while you can get it. Interestingly, that’s also my same theory on why we needed Niko.

Maybe Steve Kerr has something to do with it. He's created a chill atmosphere, ala the zen master, and guys want to play for him. What coach(and what team) is better prepared to deal with Boogie? The only player I can see getting into it with him is Draymond.

Sometimes too lax of an atmosphere could lead to issues with the people on a team are not adults. I've seen it time and again where a single rotten apple attempts to the spoil the bunch but the management does nothing to address the issue (i.e. remove the apple, etc.). This torpedoed groups during the "performing" stage of their team process (business project management crap) and killed whatever progress they were trying to make. Sometimes people are NOT adults and can't sublimate their natural ***hattedness. Not saying Boogie will be that guy, but the potential is there. Granted, it's only a season for now, but the wrong people can do all sorts of irreparable damage in a very short period time. Remember Mark Jackson on the Jazz? Yeah.

Stupid "exceptions".

It's kind of crazy how some teams can be below the luxury and be "hard capped" but other teams are above the luxury and have these exceptions they can use. The rule loopholes literally allow two teams to spend $30 million more than most of the other teams in the league.

There's a definite way to present it in a way that would be accepted. The Player's Association viewed it as the owners pulling a fast one on them, when in reality it would have been in league's best interest.

How are they going to coerce those players and their agents from getting the money? When the piñata busts open, you can't then tell people to be rational and allow Timmy and Tommy a few extra moments to come from the back of the room. The kids up front don't care about Timmy and Tommy and it would serve no purpose to wait for those little bastards anyway, especially since they already have a bunch of candy at home and the kids up front may never get a chance to have candy again.

Everybody is capped out due to two factors - terrible contracts AND the ability to keep adding and adding and adding using exceptions.

Simply put - there is no reason why a luxury tax team should be able to give a $5+ million contract to anyone. For crying out loud, there are only three or four rookies per year who make $5+ million. So GS was able to pay a free agent more than what 90% of players who are in their first 3 seasons in the league. It's just dumb. I would respect Cousins, GS and the NBA if he accepted the $1.5 minimum. This loophole is just garbage.

Like I said, the players and agents that summer are the minority. Majority of the players in the NBA were NOT FA's that Summer, so considering the players as a whole, they definitely could have represented them better.

Where do the Jazz go from here?

Currently under guaranteed contract for next season - Rudy Gobert, Derrick Favors, Tony Bradley, Jae Crowder, Thabo Sefalosha, Jingles, Royce O’Neale, Alec Burks, Donovan Mitchell, Grayson Allen and Ricky Rubio.

Guys pending contract decisions - Ekpe Udoh, Jonas Jerebko, Dante Exum, Raul Neto and Georges Niang.

Who is still out there that merits consideration for the Jazz? Obviously Nemanja Bjelica is one option. I think Tyreke Evans should be on the radar as well (especially because I think the Jazz should look hard at trading Burks right now.) Anybody else?
