What's new

James Gunn

Uh, you guys realize that Jeong's tweets are a satirical response to all the abusive **** she's had hurled at her right? Like, it's pretty ****ing obvious.
Obvious? Is it though? Do you know the context of her tweets along with her responses?
Even if it's satire, it doesn't always get a pass from ridicule e.g. Tosh's rape jokes, Gunn's pedophilia tweets and Dan Harmon raping babies short film. Hell, even Rosie's tweet was satire. She was just too dumb to know the person she was making fun of was black.

Racism is used (at least more formally in the literature I have read) as the application of racial prejudice/stereotypes/structures towards those disadvantaged by the culture/society/laws. You can be prejudiced and/or bigoted regarding any specific group, but you can only be racist to disfavored/oppressed groups.

So if a black American works as a shift manager, leading a diverse set of employees, is prejudiced against white people, is that racism?

Here's a summary from RealClearPolitics:

I see a lot of anger and hate toward white people. Since white people are not an oppressed group, that's quite possibly prejudice and bigotry, but it's not racism.

So, your claim is that Jeong is being protected by privileges Norton did not receive? Possibly, but I think the target is the more relevant factor.

You shouldn't be white, either. Yet, whiteness exists and racism exists. I wonder if you'll understand this is not referring to skin color.

I see you did not even bother to look up what happened to Anna Diop.
I know who Diop is and have read a lot about her on Reddit and IGN.
I think it's sad there are racists who have attacked her to the point she had to disable her Instagram account.
A lot of the posts that were being called racists were taken slightly out of context imo (again, the few I saw - I don't question the hate she gets - I read YouTube comments.) The comments I saw were people upset she wasn't going to be orange - to be true to her character - like Gamora from GotG. It's pretty damn pathetic and nerdy to get upset about small changes comic characters get in movies from their comics, but I don't think that alone makes one racist. Probably a virgin though.

Why?

He’s not worth talking to on the subject. Nothing, and nobody will change his mind. I’m sure One Brow has good intentions, but it’s not a subject worth talking about with him.
I was asking Siro. He generally has educated takes on things and a very different perspective than my own.

I didn't know if you were talking to me either.

As for what I think, my favorite comedian is Ricky Gervais. I traveled to LA last year just to see his stand up. Packed show. I think he's doing great. For now.

Never got the chance to see Louis CK live. :(

Yeah, it's pretty obvious. Take her tweet about white people being 'groveling goblins' for example, it's direct response to an Andrew Sullivan article where he exhorts the reader to consider 'both sides' of the issue of race. She literally follows her tweet up with 'let's hear both sides.'

Wait, didn't Andrew Sullivan just write that article yesterday? The goblin tweet is from 2014 and I can't find anything online that suggests what you're saying. Can you provide a link, please?
She also said herself her tweets weren't responses to anyone or any general audience.

I read some of the tweets exchanged by the Sullivan and Jeong. As annoying as Jeong appears, Sullivan is a bit of a drama queen. For example, Jeong says that "white men are canceled" in reference to her hiring at NYT. Sullivan responds that she's implying genocide. Which is a hilarious interpretation.

So in December 2014 Sullivan wrote a piece defending his infamous 'race science' article, here is an excerpt. IMG_20180803_170424.jpg
The next day Jeong sends these three tweets: IMG_20180803_170301.jpg IMG_20180803_170302.jpg

That's a great response to the IQ debate, I think.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Especially when he asked someone to debunk it.

I don't know who this Sullivan guy is or don't know a lot about what he was writing. Is he a white supremacist or something?

All I know is that he's a conservative writer. I remember seeing him on TV opposing gay marriage despite being gay himself. But that was a long time ago. I don't know what he's up to now.

Eh, it's an ill though out sarcastic tweet. Not every tweet needs to be a 20 part breakdown of an opinion you disagree with. Anyway, I'm not saying I think she ought to have sent the tweets, but it's hardly evidence of racism on her part.

Lord knows how great my reading can be sometimes, but did I read that right?!?!

Do you feel the same way about her comparing a race of people to an animal?

He's a fairly prominent conservative writer. Was the editor for National Review but I think writes for New York magazine these days.
