2018 Annual JazzFanz LEGENDARY Players NBA Draft

Shane Battier
I wanted to add a switchable wing defender that can spread the floor. Battier has a career 3pt% of .384 and one of the highest defensive blox plus/minus of any wing player.
Every team he was on got better, from Duke to Miami. Just one of the all-time glue guys.

Also, I loved this 3 1/2 minute video of him running the same simple play over and over. It is a great representation of Battier, the description seems really boring, but it is hard not to appreciate after watching.

Rookie drafters... ROTFL!!

FYI, a quick glance thru leads me to believe AK47 is the only non-center ever to lead the league in blocks.

Oh, Ibaka isn't a center, either. Never mind.

Now that I checked, Ellis looks pretty good too. Last time I called someone, Ron won it all. So ready your fingers Ellis.
I think all the teams in this thing are really good. I’m enjoying this draft a lot, but next year we should aim for 12 GMs and thin the ranks out a bit.

Was looking at the list, and I really like what @Hekate has done so far. His team really stands out for me.

Everyone is stacked. It will be unfair to the other team when we vote.

Chauncey Billups
Kobe Bryant-Joe Dumars
Larry Bird
Dennis Rodman-Rasheed Wallace
Bill Russell-Bill Walton

How do you want to thin the ranks out?
The rosters would be stretched a bit with 4 more GMs. It would really stretch the benches to have a few more guys drafting.Essentially, we’d still have a few extra rounds left and everyone’s rosters wouldn’t be quite as stacked as they are. I enjoy the research that goes into this thing, and there isn’t a single guy that’s been picked that surprises me.

That is your opinion, but there are plenty of people who might disagree (i.e., David Locke has gushed about Battier in the past).

I looked at my roster and felt I needed an elite wing defender. Offensively I want a player to support my main players taken earlier in the draft, not taking the ball away from them. For me, this primarily means low offensive usage while opening/spreading the floor with high efficiency 3pt shooting and ball movement. So, tell me who in NBA history was a better wing defender that shot at least .35% from 3 (on reasonable volume)? Maybe Bruce Bowen, but he was primarily a corner threat, and had no other offensive talent (he even shot below 50% from FT).

So is Battier one of the greatest players of all-time, no, but he is one of the greatest 3&D players. Sometimes building a winning team isn't about getting the best player, but getting the best fit for your team (e.g., Team USA rosters, Tayshaun Price for Rudy Gay trade, etc.).

I’m sure Locke did gush over him once or twice in the context of a regular nba roster and league of players in the nba at the time. That’s different from a league of HOF’ers and allstar’s. What would happen if you could gather all these guys, and bring them into one league the lesser stars would turn into the Shane Battier’s of the world, fact is he can’t hang with the players being collected into these roster, I mean just look at my three bench guys of Grant Hill, Drazen Petrovic, and Penny Hardaway, two are in the HOF and Penny would’ve been had Injuries not taken his game away so early, and you have Battier, nice player, but voters will look at your bench and the bench of your opponent and vote your opponent because starters were even but his bench looks better. This is why he doesn’t belong.

Fair enough. Figured he was going to get enough hell for it. Didn’t want to pile on.

We’ve had other guys drafted in other ones that I didn’t think belonged. At this point, it’s really subjective as to how to round out a roster.

There’s a guy that I love that’s almost certainly going to go undrafted. I wanted to pick him, but couldn’t pass on Ben Wallace any longer.

Are you talking about guys in this draft or just in this kind of draft in other years?
