Liar Liar but not because it's particularly amazing or anything. I feel stupider when I watch Ace Ventura. Like, my brain cells are shriveling up and crying out in sheer pain and then at some point they a few of them die off as my eyes process the unprecedented stupidity. Jim Carrey is a weird dude no doubt. Liar liar just isnt quite as weird.

Liar Liar for me... you can watch it over and over and it's still fun. Ace Ventura just hasn't aged well at all for me. I don't think I've seen it for a good 8-9 years now.

Also for me a detective type story line, once you've seen it you've got to wait at least 4-5 years until you completely forget the plot before watching it again. Like Se7en, it's a great movie but what's the point of watching it every year? Same goes with Shutter Island or the Sixth Sense very well made but it loses a lot when you already know the ending.

Ace Ventura was Carrey's first big movie - all his stupidity was fresh.

If it was his sixth or seventh movie it would have been viewed as a disappointment

That's why it hasn't aged well.

As a side bar isn't it interesting that Carrey made, hands down, the two most prophetic movies of the 1990's - Cable Guy and The Truman Show.

Batman and one loved nailed in the first two replies

I have seen each of those movies once. At the time I liked "Liar Liar" and disliked "Ace Ventura." I don't remember a lot about either movie, but I remember my reaction. So nothing smart or funny coming from me.

Ace Ventura was okay, at best, when it came out. Good for nothing more than some one liners. I can’t watch it now. I find Liar Liar still watchable.

You really just compared Ace Ventura to Se7en, The Sixth Sense, and Shutter Island.

Ace Ventura. And it’s not even close.

This is what happens to most comedians. They’re hilarious in their first few years or so. Think Eddie Murphy with 48 Hours, Trading Places, and Beverly Hills Cop. Then they start to take their self too serious and try too hard. What was once strong humor becomes a forced Dane Cook-like act.

I...I...I...someone help me out here...

I mean, you can't blame someone for not wanting to do slapstick for their entire career.

Laces out!!!
I knew this guy who was a huge Dolphins fan solely because of that movie.

I may be in the minority but I think When Nature Calls was the more memorable of the Ace Ventura movies, the rhino scene, the fight against Tommy Davidson's charachter, bumble bee tuna, the monoploy guy. Either way ace ventura all the way.
