Jazz Pre-Draft Workouts

According to this Jimmer outplayed Walker in the work out with the Jazz today.

Don't know how that changes what people think about Jimmer but worth mentioning I thought.

What's the consensus (ok... general opinion) on Walker's athleticism? Does playing one-on-one with walker represent Jimmer playing an NBA guard?
1. Speed/quickness evaluation?
2. Going against a taller player?

But I guess it does seem like a significant step forward for Jimmer considering there was concern he was "NO D."

A source at the Utah Jazz workout told me Jimmer Fredette was the best player in the workout and that Kemba Walker had trouble guarding him. The source also said that Fredette shot the ball really well and Walker didn't shoot well at all.
If you're pro-Jimmer, this is definitely encouraging news that Jimmer can score at the next level. If you have questions about his ability to be a top-20 PG in the NBA, that tidbit doesn't answer questions about his defense, and you note that he was competing against a 6-foot PG who is a capable but not necessarily great individual defender.

Jimmer will be fine in the NBA, as long as you are realistic about him. Jimmer will have a long, productive career as a backup. I want to say Eddie House, but Jimmer is better than House. I say he can have a Mo Williams type career. If he gets on the right team, he could ride a superstar to one All-Star game. If not, he will be a solid guy who can hit the three. Maybe a not-quite-as-good as Jason Terry. A shorter Korver?

Like......f'reels? Really? Please show me the NBA proven guy in this draft or any that has proceeded it.

The blatant stupidity on this board is reaching all time highs with this draft.

Pretty sure that's part of his point. I'm sure the other part has to do with the fact that he didn't play defense in college either. It's a ****ing leap of faith to assume a kid will just up an be able to go from getting toasted by guys in a weak conference (outside of SDSU and UNLV, neither of whom have anyone he was guarding the will even sniff an NBA court) in college and then POOF!, suddenly be able to guard PGs that are about 1000x times better and more physically gifted.

Maybe he does it, but basing things off of workouts as oppose to REAL games is a fool's bet.

I don't like players that are serious risks to be defensive liabilities. Call that person Jimmer, call that person Boozer, call that person Jesus Christ ... I don't care ... I'll take Knight, Millsap, and Ghandi and we'll shut you down. Take the under, cuz it's going to be an ugly, low-scoring affair, but we're going to win.

Yea take my statement out of context. I was responding to another poster's remarks about all the negativity around Jimmer's game. No where did I say any other player had proven themselves. Way to assume and make yourself look like a Jimmer homer.

I don't hate Jimmer at all. I think he is a great shooter and can become a very good player if he continues to work hard. However, he isn't perfect and he isn't a sure thing just like every other player. Since I was talking specifically about Jimmer, I think my concerns are right on and no different than many scouts. So quit crying and attacking people for their opinion. Jimmer is not beyond criticism and when people like you start calling people stupid just because they have a different opinion you only feed the Jimmer hate.

I agree with this and it's fair to ask if he can do these things in the NBA.

What I don't understand though, is when you bring up Jimmer in the "can he do this in the NBA" question, you have to compare him to the other PG's in the NBA.

All have their strengths and weaknesses, but Kemba, Walker and even more so, Irving (only 300ish minutes total playing time in college) are all untested in the NBA.

You doubt him, so do I. However, I doubt pretty much EVERY player in this draft.

Where did I compare him to players in the NBA? Sorry but the NBA has better athletes than the NCAA. Its a fact. I am simply stating some observations about how he played in college and how well I think his skills will translate. I didn't compare him to anyone in the NBA. Questioning if he can guard NBA players is definitely a concern with Jimmer (just like with any player but my initial conservation was about Jimmer and not Walker or Knight). I have concerns with Walker and Knight too but this particular incident I was talking about JImmer. However, some posters seem to be feeling the need to protect their beloved Jimmer when I didn't even attack him. Again, I don't hate or love Jimmer. I would be ok with him on the Jazz. I do fear that Jimmer might be the end of Jazz Nation, if I get these kind of reactions by simply stating a few legitimate concerns regarding Jimmer heaven help anyone if they actually criticize his play if he is on the Jazz. LMAO.

You didn't. I mistyped. I meant to compare him to other PG's in this draft.

I hope you don't view my post as saying you shouldn't criticize Jimmer. In fact I encourage it, I just wanted to help people criticize with the context in mind. Considering how unsure we are with the talent in the draft, it's better to compare him to his competition, like Walker, Irving and Knight.

See what I'm saying... You think it's an automatic Jimmer will be at least a 6 year pro when the guy hasn't done anything yet? Blasphemy right? It has taken the dude 3 more years than the competition to even get to the NBA draft.

No, I'm not seeing what you're saying. In fact, I haven't seen one person compare Jimmer to a mix of Dwill and Nash. Not one. So I fail to see what you're saying.

Your gross exaggerations do not help your argument. They actually disrupt whatever intelligent point you might have and destroy your credibility.

Yes, I believe it's extremely possible if not probable that Jimmer will be at least a 6 year pro. And yes, I believe barring serious injury, he will have a more successful career than Ronnie Price. Why don't you tell the audience why you believe he will not?

Huh? Was there a point to be made here? What was it exactly?

Is SI "credible" enough for you?

Fredette offers his own (ambitious) comparisons. "Deron Williams and Steve Nash," says Fredette. "I'm not saying I'm as good. But I'm similar in size to Deron and I can play up-tempo, use ball screens well, shoot from outside, use my crossover, get to the basket and finish strong. And like Nash, I can get into the lane and finish over guys with awkward angle shots."

You're a homer!

I would hope a 22 year old who admittedly "takes off" playing defense in college would be able to outplay the competition on the offensive end. He hasn't even been projected to get drafted in many drafts until this years "weak draft" where he'll be a lottery pick. I'm saying it took him 3 more years of college experience to be seriously considered an NBA talent. The guy is probably at his peak... I would rather have a player who is just as good, and who is 3-4 years younger. I still think he's overratted.

You're a homer!
