If not Rubio then what?

If it were up to me, I'd play Mitchell more on the ball at the 1. Let him learn the position. He has the tools to be a dominant player at that position. Having him hang out on the wing waiting for Rubio to do something positive isn't utilizing his strengths.

He'll make mistakes and turnovers, but when he puts it together he'll be a complete, multi-dimensional player from 30 feet in. The team has to be built around Mitchell and Gobert flanked by Ingles and Crowder.

If the Jazz bring in a better PG and want to move Mitchell off the ball, then fine. Until then let him develop those skills.

Lets just analyze PG options:

Lots of chatter says John Wall might become available, but I dont think we would be interested. Detroit and Orlando look like the most likely options.

If Detroit is interested in Wall, Reggie Jackson would either go to the Wiz or go elsewhere. He has this year and next on his deal but it's better than Wall's.

Like I mentioned, Orlando needs a PG upgrade over awful Augustin and Grant.

Rozier which we have already mentioned.

Almost every other PG situation in the NBA is under control. Pretty crazy.

Any PG chatter I'm missing?

Ricky’s shooting is bad and guys are leaving him really open. So they can affect what our best guys do well with absolutely no penalty... actually they get a reward. If he was a threat off the dribble it might work... if he was an elite lock down defender (like Marcus smart or Roberson) it might work. He’s a good defender most nights but has had some bad stints this season and last... he’s good/solid but not a force on that end. The loose balls are great... the passing is good but the intangibles don’t outweigh the real tangible issues... when you consider usage, turnover rate, and shooting he might be the most disruptive offensive player in the league right now. It might be that we play 3 non-shooters as starters so it is exaggerating his weaknesses.

He’s also hit a couple when things were already decided... I wonder what his non-garbage time numbers look like. Anyone have a subscription to cleaning the glass?

I don't know what the proper amount of patience or whatever is. But Mitchell has to be our PG of the future. Find a solid ball handler and good shooter for the two guard. And get a real stretch four.

That's the blueprint for this team reaching it's ceiling. We have a good FO so I think we'll get there eventually. It's a question of how long they cling to this thing that isn't working.

So we can create one of the best shots in basketball but don’t make it at an average level... so it’s almost like if we added more shooting it’d solve a lot of our problems.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Quin's offense is generating great shots, if we just had guys that could knock them down it would solve so many of our problems.

He's not that kind of player. He needs a floor general type next to him to keep his worst tendencies in check.
I think he looks his best and worst in those moments. He has moments where he looks in complete control of the offense, that give me hope that down the line he could be great in that spot. And he definitely has better size for that position.

Your point is well taken though. But what I really don't like is having a floor general next to him who takes a high volume of wide open shots and misses them at a historic rate. Screws up spacing, defenders sag off. It just looks too ugly too often.

I could see him next to an old school PG who basically just runs the offense, doesn't shoot much, but has to be guarded at all times. Which actually kind of sounds like Rubio, and I don't think he'll be this bad all year. But what happens if he has another surge the last few months of the year? Do we go into the offseason praising him and thinking he finally 'gets it' again?

I don't think he'll ever be a good shooter, but every so often he'll do just enough to make you believe.

Not to make this all about Rubio, but I'm sure you agree that if we are putting Mitchell with a 'floor general' then that guy must be a threat to shoot.

I don't like his contract, but I like his toughness. He isn't perfect, but he seems to fit the description of what @Bawse Dawg is talking about. He might be the kick in the pants this team needs.

Rumors out today that Bucks want Korver and want to deal Dellie. http://woelfelspressbox.com/2018/11/bucks-looking-to-add-perimeter-shooter/

What does everybody think of Dellavadova?

He’d be a stop-gap measure. He can shoot tho

If we got somebody like Dellie, we could just make Exum a quality defense first combo guard or SG off the bench. We could quit trying to make him something he isn't quite getting which is PG.

Someone like Rubio. The offense runs great with Rubio outside of his defender being able to sag off or bait him into shooting.

So someone like Rubio but that can shoot and maybe won’t turn it over as much?

Is that more like Kyle Lowry? Chris Paul? Mike Conley? Do we make “floor generals” anymore?

I think we have enough floor general with Ingles, DM, that we just need another guard who can pass and dribble... don’t think they need to control the ball or be a pass first player.

So the offense runs great with him other than the huge flaw he has that effs up the offense? Is that like saying Kanter is fine on defense other than getting beat over and over again in iso and PnR?

Gawd no... delly is terrible and gets hurt as much as Neto. Not to mention his contract sucks.

I’d much rather roll with Ricky.

I don't think Dellie would replace Rubio. We would get him to provide more stable backup PG play moving Exum to backup SG duties.

He might cut into Rubio minutes (yay), but Rubio would stay the starter this season.
