Point Guards

DM should play PG. I see no benefit it playing Neto 30mins a night.

DM
Korver
Ingles
Crowder (but we all know Favs)
Rudy
Mitchell just isn't capable of running the point for 30+ minutes a night at this stage, he even recently spoke about how he didn't realise how much work Rubio/Exum have to do while running the point until he was forced into that role during the playoffs last year and that he has a lot of respect for those guys because of that.

Maybe 30 minutes a night is a bit much for Neto but he should absolutely play more minutes at PG than DM and allows DM to focus on the stuff he does best.

I mean, Donovan had 1 assist and 7 turnovers last night.

Practice makes perfect.

Practice makes perfect.
Except it's critical that the Jazz pile up the wins during this stretch as it's the time the schedule has finally lightened and the Jazz are playing catchup. Not really a time to be experimenting with things and potentially lose some games that they really need to win.

Practice makes perfect.

yes, practise make perfect.
Please say this snyder who has given Dante a short leash throughout his 4 years in utah.
So apparently mitchell is allowed to practise his skills while he is playing an actual nba game, but Dante is not allowed to do the same. Double standards at its very best.

I will be interested to see how much better, worse or the same we will be with Donovan and Neto running the point. As a guy with little faith in Rubio making us a contender, I now get to see if lacking Rubio makes us a lottery team.

Next 4 games should be Ws:
vs Magic
vs Lakers
vs Bulls
vs Pistons

After those it gets much more dangerous:
@ Clippers
vs Blazers
vs Nuggets Jan 24th (Exum might be back and even Rubio being very optimistic)
vs Wolves
@ Wolves

February is actually pretty tough. We better be ready.
March is when it really gets easy.

To me the path of least resistance is to see if Naz is NBA ready. No one has to get cut. I think there are a certain number of games two ways can play. Also when Grayson heals play him at the point.

I’ve liked Naz when I’ve watched him with the Stars. NBA is a different game, but Naz seems okay to me as a backup to Neto.

As for the rest of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if Donovan is the starting PG. I don’t really like that, I think it’s added pressure on Donovan that he doesn’t need right now. I didn’t realize there were so many wanting him to run the point, but to be completely honest he’s not very good at it right now. He’s not better than Neto at it. It’s just too much to ask him to facilitate and be our offense, it’s too much and it’s unfair if you’re asking him to take you to wins over the next few weeks as your point guard and leading scorer IMO. If you’re okay with “practice making perfect” and letting him grow during this process without worrying as much about wins I think you have to decide which is more important at this stage.

If you want to make the playoffs and wins are the goal I think you have to find a way to keep Donovan away from being put in the roll of having to be PG and the leading scorer. You can’t ask all of that of him, not right now. If you’re cool letting Donovan develop his PG skills, then you have to live with the results which honestly haven’t been great when he’s ran PG during extended periods.

I’ll think at this point you roll with Neto, give Naz some time, and hope Grayson gets back to fill some minutes at the 2 as well, while giving Joe and Donovan some minor minutes at PG and hope Dante gets back in due time. The worry of course being, Neto is also someone who gets injured a lot and we’ll see how long he lasts playing extended time.

One things for certain, this is a very bad time to have injuries stacking up especially in the same positions.

I don't want point guard duties(offense and defensive) to fall on DM45, we want him fresh (mentally & physically) to close out games.

@LoPo will now see how blessed we are to have the Rubio

Maybe this could be a blessing. I’m hoping we see Donovan at the point for the far majority of his court time. If he looks good, or even great, maybe we’ll decide to move on from Rubio.

I’ve supported Rubio but between his shooting woes and injuries, I’m just not sure he’s dependable.

By the time they would sign anyone and teach them the system, Dante would be coming back. Neto can do 30+ minutes.
I feel like this leads the train of thought.

Increase Neto's minutes
Distribute the rest between ball handlers(Mitchell, Ingles)

Neto is a really good backup imo... pretty under-rated, but I'm always impressed with his positive attitude and always being ready to play. Durability has been an issue, but there is no need to bring anyone in at all.
