Trump's Address. Thoughts?

So anyone here actually likes the idea of the Wall? Or am I the only one here who's hold the flag?

The more I read, scarily, yes I do. I can't believe I'm even saying it. I don't know, maybe I'm a sucker and buying into "fake news" or something, but I've heard too much to make me think it's not a good idea.

I was listening to ksl news radio this morning (a local news station that leans right) and they had some expert on with them and were asking wall related questions.
He said that the vast majority of illegal drugs coming into the US from Mexico come through legal border crossings and that a wall wouldn't make a dent in the illegal drug trade. Would cost about 24 million dollars for each mile of wall to be built though.
The vast majority of terrorists come into our country through legal crossings or on airplanes and a wall wouldn't make a dent in terror attacks either. Would cost about 24 million dollars for each mile of wall to be built though.
Also stated that illegal immigrants actually commit less crime than legal us citizens percentage wise in their relation to their population. So the wall wouldn't make a dent in crime rate. Would cost about 24 million dollars for each mile of wall to be built though.

When you consider the effect that the wall would likely have on the issues that it would be built to lessen vs the cost of the wall, it doesn't seem like a good value.
That money would be better spent on something else.

I think what was not said but goes without saying is you are welcome to come as long as the first thing you do isnt breaking the law.

Why is it that the Democrats ignore the issue and act like it isnt a legitimate issue? Up until Trump became president they cared about it. Why all of sudden since Trump got in office its a non issue? Why the inconsistencies? Why the lies? Why the fight? Why the divisiveness? Why the stupidity?

Based on this, your posting.

I dunno when they say the majority of illegal drugs come from legal border crossings - I wonder how they determine that? Do they go around asking drug dealers where they got their drugs from? And even if they do, why would they reveal how they got their drugs across?

I remember watching one of the Fast and the Furious movie and they had this secret tunnel that they moved the drugs between Mexico and the US, and it was very well hidden. Why would anyone reveal a crossing such as that to the police?

I imagine the people making this determination have a level of expertise beyond watching a fast and furious movie.

I'm just using that as an example, but I really want to know where these so called 'experts' get their data from.

Legal Immigrants committed the LEAST amount of crime per 100,000. Yes undoc. immigrant committed less crime than native born but if you look at the middle graph, 'homicide' it is still VERY HIGH.

If we're able to prevent all undoc. immigrant coming across, wouldn't that be better?

Maybe they know based off of when they pick people up/do inspections at legal places they find drugs but when they catch people crossing illegally they don't find drugs so that tells them which methods are being employed more often.

Idk how they know though. Just know that the dude on that news show had the data

Yes apprehension at the border had decreased steadily but it's still sitting it 300,000+ per year, and that's not counting those that went into the US without being caught.

Again, the wall ain't free. Sure it would be great to stop illegal immigration but A. We don't even know if a wall would be effective at stopping illegal immigration. B. The wall is hella expensive and there are other things we could be using that money for.

Yeah but to that I have a couple of points:

1. Trump made a whole lot more money than the previous administration off of Tariffs from China - so there's more money to play with now.

2. The new trade deal with Mexico there will be more money from that that was not there before.

3. Also you have to bite the bullet at one point. It's like rinstalling a home security system for the house. It ain't cheap, but for the future longevity of the house and the safety of the people living in it, it needs to be done.

4. Illegal immigrants costs the State money to deal with in the long term. So there's future cost savings to be had there too.

Again, we don't even know if the wall would work. I have heard experts say that it wouldn't even really do any good.

Also, even if we make money on some things I don't want that to be looked at as "money to play with". There are many problems in this country that need money to help fix them.

Well the wall can be upgraded overtime if need be once you have it. You can put in sensors and webcams every 100 meter once you have more funds and then you'll have realtime look at what's going on.

I just don't think dismissing it outright just because 'It's Trump's idea' is a good idea.
