Donald Fires FBI Director who's investigating Russian Election Hacking

This guy gets it.

For years the USSR thought that the left flank was America's weakness. They thought that influence in American government could be had by infiltrating unions. Not anymore. Russia has switched strategies and is now (successfully) infiltrating all levels of American society through the right wing. Using the NRA, exploiting religion and the gop, and bribing of American businessmen, they now have significant influence over our government.

Doubt me? Look at how we're lifting sanctions on them and handing Putin foreign policy wins.

This is huge for three reasons from what I understand:

#1 It confirms yet again the Steele dossier. What exactly hasn't materialized yet? That raw intelligence report has proven to be too credible to merely shrug off even if the pee tape never materializes.

#2 It shows yet again the Cohen lied. Now why would he lie about meeting in Prague about a Trump Tower deal in Moscow during the election?

#3 It shows yet again why Team Trump's foreign policy is geared towards helping the Kremlin. Russia knew that Team Trump lied about this. So they could yet again use Trump's lying as blackmail to do their bidding. Otherwise, they could have revealed to the west and destroyed his presidency.

Conclusion: Trump desperately needs to go. Like right now. Our democracy is being harmed every single day in two ways:

a) We are proving to be corrupt and incapable of governing. This weakens us and western democracy and serves Putin's purposes.
b) Our foreign policy is clearly being driven by Russian blackmail. The longer we allow Trump to trample our allies, shred treaties and arms deals, and empower the world's worst dictators, the worse off we will be. Russia has actually installed its Manchurian Candidate and yet most repubs support this guy? Unbelievable!

Right? How can we tolerate this? What's going to happen? If this were any other president we would've impeached him by now. His political future would be dead.

Under the powers delegated by such statutes, the president may seize property, organize and control the means of production, seize commodities, assign military forces abroad, institute martial law, seize and control all transportation and communication, regulate the operation of private enterprise, restrict travel, and, in a variety of ways, control the lives of United States citizens.
 
Russian lawyer at the famed trump tower meeting that "didn't happen" has been charged with money laundering.

Natalya Veselnitskaya was one of the sealed indictments. This one was unsealed today.

Veselenitskaya "had participated in drafting those supposed independent investigative findings in secret cooperation with a senior Russian prosecutor,"

Her false assertion caused the court to make a ruling she sought, denying the US government's motion for partial summary judgment in the money-laundering case, and was used by the investment firm as the basis for multiple court filings during the litigation, prosecutors said Tuesday.

The case she's been indicted for is independent of the Mueller investigation.
 
I'm not sure this is listed here yet, but it looks like Manafort shared polling data with a Russian employee, Konstantin Kilimnik

That, to me at least, would weigh heavily as an exchange of information.

Might not be definitive, but sure suggests collusion. As in where Russia should target their social media efforts.

This is good, but the president still gets his free platform in which to broadcast his disinformation. Instead of beginning tonight's prime time address "my fellow Americans", Trump should really be saying "my loyal cult members".

"Full-saturation disinformation with the deliberate end of corrupting our political discourse and democracy." Now THAT is something an "enemy of the people" would do!

The networks cannot feign innocence about the near-certainty that Trump is going to use this speech to lie relentlessly about immigration and the border. It is now a mostly accepted fact among many journalists and producers that Trump’s use of disinformation, as distinct from conventional political lying — in particular, his endless repetition of lies and distortions after they have been debunked — has combined with his relentless attacks on the media’s legitimacy into something that poses special challenges to the institutional role of the press. In a sense, this decision by the networks is perhaps best seen as a preview of whether the news media will reevaluate its treatment of Trump as we head into the 2020 campaigns. In an important Twitter thread, New York University journalism professor Jay Rosen makes a good case that the big news organizations and media professionals urgently need to overhaul their approach to campaign journalism from the bottom up. This requires a recognition of the unique challenges that Trump’s innovations — full-saturation disinformation with the deliberate end of corrupting our political discourse and democracy — pose in the context of their imperative of maintaining a posture of objectivity and neutrality, which Rosen dubs the “production of innocence”

I’m a little more skeptical and here’s why:

Going back to the Paul Manafort’s idiotic lawyers releasing accidentally redacted information, he could have (a) been sending that information as a way to coordinate efforts with Russian intelligence and/or (b) been sending that information as a way to “show off.” He was deeply in debt with Russian oligarchs and could have merely been trying to show that Trump was still a contender in the race and that maintaining access to him through Manafort would prove beneficial to Russian oligarchs (and help Manafort settle some of his debts).

I’m sure the Trump team will try and make the case for option (b). And that this was solely done by Manafort and not authorized by Trump. I’m sure trump will give Manafort the “Cohen Treatment.” “Oh I had no idea Paul was doing xyz... you’ll have to ask him!”

However, it doesn’t mean that both weren’t happening either. I could see Manafort trying to save his own skin while knowing that the information he funneled to Russia would be used for illegal purposes.

Now as far as the Mueller report goes:

I’m skeptical that it’ll ultimately bring Trump down. He can’t be indicted without being impeached. Barr hasn’t shown a willingness to indict a sitting president. In fact, he’s written just the opposite. So trump needs to be impeached.

Republicans control the senate. I see no evidence that McConnell would allow an impeachment vote. And I see no evidence that the cult previously known as the “GOP” would ever vote to impeach.

Trump could literally invite Putin to his rallies, campaign in 2020 in Russian, and swim ala Scrooge McDuck in a pool full of dollar bills meant for furloughed government workers and 35 percent of this country would cheer him on.

Trump, together with Fox News and am radio has successfully built up a personality cult. Republicans will endure a treasonous president for

Judges

So I don’t see this as being very impactful. I think most of us are already there. We know Trump is guilty. But we also know that even if the House successfully impeaches the Senate won’t convict.

Democrats will have to beat him in 2020 imo. And Sadly, if Trump wins re-election, The statutes of limitation on some of his other crimes will have passed.
