We all love Favors, but...

I don’t know if he will be traded. I’m not sure the front office can find someone as good as him as a backup center. I worry what trading him does to our bench. We know we need a shooting four. But I don’t think the front office will sacrifice defense for offense. But we shall see. If he is traded. I hope the best for him. Been nothing but a professional and an amazing jazz man.

I think we need to make a trade and he's one of the most logical pieces to move. But I'm not so sure that it happens. I think that it's possible that DL doesn't find a trade that clearly makes us better and does what the Jazz usually do... stand pat. "Growth from within", "grow our guys"....chemistry... we looked hard but didn't find a deal... etc etc. You know the spiel.
 
He may be traded but its not a certainty imo. The FO have stated previously how valuable they think Favors is in a playoff run so unless he helps upgrade us significantly I expect him to play out the year.
 
I personally think Udoh can do almost everything Favors does as our backup C, but Udoh just rots on the bench.

Favors should be traded because his minutes at PF can be upgraded and Udoh can take his C minutes.

I have a serious question to ask. Our off-season targets would require us to pass on Favors' option for next year.

So would you rather pull the Favors bandaid before the deadline OR just tell him to walk this summer?

Wouldn't it make more sense and be less painful at the trade deadline? Let's say we drop Favors to add Niko; wouldn't Niko spend all season having to live up to not only his contract and our higher expectqtions but also being the reason we let Favors walk?

Is there any chance we could land Anthony Davis in a trade? I feel like Utah could offer up more than a lot of teams although I'm not familiar with our contracts. Maybe a trade like Rubio, Exum, Favors and draft picks for Davis? Or would that still not be enough? I feel like Utah would be a perfect place for Davis. He'd have shooters around him along with one of the best playmakers in the game with Mitchell who would now be running point. Not to mention we would have two of the best interior defenders in the game with Davis and Gobert. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Oneal - Korver - Allen
Ingles - Sefelosha
Davis - Crowder - Niang
Gobert - Udoh - Bradley

Lack of depth at the guard position so maybe get another guard in the trade if possible.

I think Lindsey would probably get an indication of who might sign as a free agent before he has to pick up Favors' option. The safest route...which Dennis usually takes, would be to keep Favors and then pick up his option if it appears nothing will pop up in free agency. Or he just clears the salary and then signs Favors and probably Rubio,
 
We don’t have to trade him... I think it’s possible if the right deal came along.

I just wish we stop being doofuses and play him as the backup center and start Jae. The lineup data is ridiculous. I think it’d help Favs per minute production. Gunner Jae off the bench is not the best use of his skills... he’s better playing off of other good players.

I don’t see a deal materializing for Favs atm. Wizards are likely convinced they are playoff bound given their strong play... maybe they feel Ariza is giving them enough and they’d part with OP jr. to get some flexibility but I think between the emergence of Bryant and them winning some they don’t see as big of a need at center.

You have to take back salary at the deadline, which puts you out of the running for those targets anyways.

I still think it’s more likely that the Jazz make a small deal at the deadline (unless something crazy comes available) and then look to turn Favors, Exum and draft picks into a 3rd star to team with Rudy, Donovan, Jingles, Crowder, Korver and O’Neale. Maybe keep Rubio at a lower rate as well.

So the decision on Favors happens the same day teams can officially sign players (July 6). We can negotiate from July 1 until July 6.

I just have a hard time believing we will keep Favors on ice, then verbally agree to XYZ free agent, then renounce Favors and sign that XYZ free agent all on July 6.

The organization runs the risk of split fans if that happens. The love for Favors is so strong that the XYZ signing will come through a cloud. Even if it's Tobias Harris, some people will moan and moan loudly.

The easiest thing in my mind is to trade him soon. If he stays past the deadline, I give it a 99% chance our off-season is just keeping Favors again.
