2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I fully understand the situation at hand. I think you misunderstood my post. I was stating that Dennis won't bring in someone that takes up the cap space we have this offseason and in addition, he's not going to give up what he perceives to be valuable pieces to this year's team while losing that cap space going forward.

I disagree that Dennis Lindsey would make an addition now. I think sights are set on a big time free agent with the floor being Khris Middleton or Tobias Harris. I don't think Dennis will bring on an Otto Porter or Mike Conley and risk losing the chance to sign someone better for the Jazz in the offseason.
You think the Jazz are willing to sacrifice opportunities to substantially improve the team so they can chase KD and Kawhi? I think it’s important to dream big, but that’s a problem when your dreams hurt your reality and I don’t think DL is stupid. Because that would be really stupid as their best angle to the next tier of free agents is being decisive about them.

My bad... I misread and though "this team" versus "this year's team"

I don't think we have a shot or intention on chasing the FA above the Middleton Harris tier... but if you think otherwise it would make sense to wait. OP is in the same ballpark as Middleton Harris. I'm out on the Conley idea completely.

I’m not sure you understand. We can’t use that valuable space and keep Favs and Rubio... it’s an either or. DL set things up for flexibility and will make an addition now if the opportunity presents itself. It’s unlikely because trades and transactions are somewhat rare by nature.

He may not want to dip into the additional assets, Allen, picks, Exum?, etc. but he’d put Favs and Rubio on the table for the right addition now.
I think he is being sarcastic.

I think the Jazz will be that stupid. Dennis Lindsey's past track record of being reactive instead proactive suggests to me there is 0 chance they will trade for someone this season that ties up their cap space for the offseason.

I don’t know how the particulars of this works, but I send a text at 12:00 July 1st to the top tier guys that says “you have a max deal on the table if you want to sign it” in the event one of them jumps at the offer, but put all of the actual effort into Harris>Middleton. Just to cover your bases.

I agree about Jrue, but NOLA would trade Mirotic or Randle because they might walk this summer. Jrue is still a guy they can keep to build around AD. If they trade him before the deadline, might as well trade AD too.

I specifically said AFTER they lose/trade AD. Before they do it, Jrue is not going anywhere.

The Conley deal is also made really difficult by the fact that Memphis is right at the tax and many of the teams that would be interested (I think) are also bumping up against it.

Sacramento gonna get in the deal somehow to absorb something from somebody.

Everybody is looking at Mirotic/Randle in case the Pels decide to rebuild after they lose AD(seems like he's injured and they will be out of the playoff picture this year)... It's not Mirotic we should be after. It should be Jrue Holiday. One of the best fitting guards for our system and our roster. He's like a souped up version of what George Hill was for us(when not healing his toe).

He's good, but he's also a meh shooter. He plays in a hyper offensive system that produces a ton of open looks and has shot 33% the last two years. He shoots the same percentage as Rubio does on wide open looks on the same amount of wide open looks.

If you want to improve your offensive ability, I think Conley is a far better option.

Ahhh... yeah they won't move him until the summer doe.

BTW some experts think NOLA hates LA and won't do business with them... may have been a joke because of Rams Saints, but some think that the LA offer would have to be way better than anything else on the table to get the Pelicans to bite.

I'm not certain an AD trade = a rebuild.

I think they would likely go for a retooling around Randle and Holiday with the pieces they get from a Davis trade (Boston would make this doable with Brown/Smart/Hayward centered trade)

Chances hayward is a Pelican next year? I say 50%... makes my heart so happy that it really could happen.

I think this may be correct... if they don't change out the GM or sell the team... they are dumb and short-sighted.
