2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

I'd like to go on the record that I never wanted Mike Conley and his albatross contract on this team. I feel like I must be the only happy person on this board today (though getting something for Rubio would have been nice, at the same time reading his thoughts through the twitter made me want to keep him for personality alone).

I’m not claiming that. Let those birds ****ing fly for the love of god.

In trying to shoehorn Rubio and Favors, the Jazz have been using calculus to solve 2+2 and getting 3 as the answer. It’s not that complex, spread the ****ing floor and don’t allocate significant resources to bad fits.

That's the problem... Zach Lowe described it so well when he was like "the jazz need someone 10% better than Jae". We have the data... at some point it is okay to take a half step back and try something different if it has potential to unlock something great.

How many guys have to be renounced to offer Niko $15M? Calling it now... "Niko isn't worth losing Favors AND Rubio. He just isn't."

Dem bird rights doe.

Favs... and no one else I think.

The Dante project may be the worst kind of fail... Fultz was traded today... they cut bait and got a minimal return. It was a fast fail... spent big draft capital but that's okay.

We have invested so much in Dante... then used draft capital for seemingly stop gap options in Hill and Rubio while he developed. It is obviously not all his fault, but continuing to double down can prove costly. We had a great excuse to get out of the project today (maybe who knows Grizz may have asked for more) and bet again.

It better work... there is almost no way it is a profitable en-devour based on sunk costs... but from here on out he better be worth his contract at least.
This post is optimistic. Exum has been a slow and quiet disaster and is one of the least-talented players I’ve seen stay around for so long. And no, I don’t consider speed and height talent.

If you didn’t get Porter because of Ingles, you’re nuts. Ingles is the most average player on the face of the earth.
Lol. I'm nuts then. But you are cluesses about basketball if you don't realize the importance of Joe in our team. Plus, Washington probably requested more for Porter than the Grizzlies did for Conley, thus the end of negotiations some days ago. And Porter is overpaid and we are not sure he is even that good

We have 2 more seasons with Rudy before he leaves, whats the timetable for Spyda with his rookie and RFA before he leaves as well?

It’s insane to me that such an intelligent group of minds as the Jazz brass end up:
-having a roster 10 years behind the rest of the league, while they
-let their only two stars drown in help defense
-choking out their own master plan in free agency by committing eight-figures a year to an obvious bust.

Uhh, what? They can get to max space with Exum on the roster.

Would need to renounce Neto and maybe Niang too, but it's very close.

I need to adjust for the $1M reduction on Rudy's cap number doe... so maybe they are fine. It's so close that we can say yes they have a max spot.

Where was it reported that Exum was the hold up. By the same people reporting contradicting messages and leaks from various agents and teams? Don't think I've seen it from any Utah reporter (or any reporter recently, to be honest). I'm no Exum stan, but people complaining about his contract and yet coveting Porter is hilarious to me

Pretty damn risky for them to continue down the road and not get value for him honestly... they must really believe.

The only reason i could think of this summer when hearing of Dante's salary was that we needed some mid-level-ish contracts for trades. Now he's seemingly untouchable, yet when healthy barely plays, and isnt healthy very often. Pretty big obstacle to deal with and we did it to ourselves.
