Rules are simple. Songs that you were familiar with that you either didn't like, or didn't have an opinion on, or would have been embarrassed to like, but now years later have discovered that you really like them. I've got a lot. I'll only post a couple for now.

[I didn't hate any of these, just didn't have an opinion when they were originally out. Later I'll post some I didn't like previously]

I know a number of them I have are songs that I previously only knew from The Box. Old fuzzy channel 58. The poor man’s MTV.

Dang. That was a dope remix. If you dont listen to that you do yourself a disservice.

This cover of Wonderwall actually got me into Oasis.

And for whatever reason i didn't get into Nirvana until i was in Uni, it started with the leadbelly cover...

it also took me forever to get into Paul Kelly, at some point his music just clicked for me, we have some mutual friends and I've been lucky enough to have some beers with him over the years, fabulous bloke.

You live in cave or something? These are song regularly played on the radio since the beginning of time.

The premise is discovering that you like songs, despite having heard them for years. Here's another one:

Reign O’er Me by The Who.

Probably heard it somewhere as a kid. I’m not sure. My dad used to play records pretty often but I don’t recall any of The Who. Anyway, I saw the very end of that Sandler/Cheadle movie about nine years ago and heard the PJ version of it. Then I checked out The Who’s original. Phenomenal. Daltrey absolutely crushes it.

Anything by Van Halen...(the Roth version)

I always hated that band growing up. Meaningless c..o..c..k rock (Yes, there is a genre called c**k rock. It means simplistic, stupid, macho lyrics in which girls are seen as nothing but creatures who serve guy's needs.) I was into music that meant something. Music for me has to say more than, "I like the way the line runs up the back of the stockings..."

Then, for some unknown reason, years later I fell in love with Van Halen. C..o...ck rock lines like, "Got it bad, got it bad, got it bad, I'm hot for teacher" have more meaning than anything Dylan or Springsteen ever wrote.

The thing about Van Halen was, they were just FUN.

"I tried jogging but the ice kept falling out of the glass" david lee roth.

Listening to Tool at the moment on my way to the comedy festival to see Dan Kitson. Never got into them years ago

I completely discounted this band as just trying-to-be-cool Oasis followers. Dunno why. Around the time of this album, maybe a little bit before it came out, I gave them a real shot. Luckily, it was before they turned to crap.

Noel Gallagher did a rendition that has a lot of similarities to that cover.

More Oasis talk. I would have never associated Placebo with them (my only familiarity with Placebo is any of their commercial stuff and it’s been years [decades?] since I’ve heard anything). Anyway, their first album is one of those ones that, top to bottom, is amazing. Here’s one of my favorite songs from it:

Other albums that I find great too to bottom is Sarah McLachlan Surfacing, Depeche Mode Violator, Smashing Pumpkins Machina, Type O Negative October Rust. There’s more, I’ll think of them.

Speaking of albums, how does that work nowadays? You used to buy the album. Now you buy songs. How are people even releasing this stuff in the digital age?

Aenima is another good top to bottom album. Back in high school, I went to a lot of concerts by myself. Tool was one at the McKay Event Center at UVSC (now UCCU something at UVU).

Pet Shop Boys’ Please also a solid record. Had that on cassette tape in high school.
