What's new

The official Jazz vs Rockets prediction thread.

Other than something completely insane like Brooklyn beating the Warriors in the finals.

Utah winning this series is one of the things I'm hoping to see most in this years playoffs, becuase it;s gona look fantastic if they can pull it off.... make no mistake tho, it's gonna take a tremendous team effort to pull this off..

As much as I'd liek to say Utah in 7.

Houston in 6.

I'm sorry you guessed that 4 games would end in such strange fashion. You are a prophet, seer, and revelator.
Get your pompous and selfrightous *** and jokes out of my thread. You were the dumbass making a post with the kings up by 20 and then having to come back into the thread to look even more stupid with comments like this. I never claimed to be a seer, revelator, or prophet. I made this thread for predictions.

The jazz will win MAYBE 1 game

538 has the rockets 70% and us 30% to win this.

What were we last year vs the thunder? Wasnt this bad of odds thats for sure.

Well, I’m just taking in the similar situations. We had a phenomenal season in ‘94 and we were quite optimistic. We did not think they could beat us. But they did.

ETA: and then they did it again the next year.

I feel this is some revisionist history. The Jazz only got to the WCF because Denver upset Seattle in the first round and even then, they nearly blew a 3-0 lead against the Nuggets, finally winning in seven. I don't think anyone expected the Jazz to beat the Rockets in the '94 WCF.

1995 was more on that level, as the Jazz had home court, which they didn't have in 1994, and were a three-seed. In 1994, they were a five-seed and Houston was a two-seed.

So, enjoy this video you 5 - 1ers. Also, I think that there are some big measuring stick benefits to playing the rockets. Are we a better team this year than last? We are about to find out.

I am very interested to see if Quin learned how to strategize against the rockets? Can we stop Chris Paul's jumper? Can Gobert handle coming out of the paint against chris paul when they force the switch? If Harden doesnt score 45 then the rockets lose a lot. The rockets lost a lot of quality supporting role, defensive players from last year.

Lets keep the list going...Gobert learned how to score in bunches from last year to now. We swapped Jerebko for Niang (say "Niang" when he shoots. It usually goes in) and Korver (actually a deep ball shooter) for Hood (pure chucker). Donovan is one year older and a lot wiser. Our young team is now a bit older and more experienced. HOPEFULLY Rubio isnt hurt for 4 of the 5 games we play. Favors looks hella good right now - arguably playing his best ball ever. Could Grayson allen be an x factor?

I predict a competitive series and last year we didnt have that.

I think it'll be pretty competitive but i can see Houston winning in 6 with some controversial help from the refs. But i don't think they're way better than us like they were last year.

Will be interesting to see how Rudy fares after Capela stood up to him last year.

I think Donovan will absolutely shine.

It all hinges on Rubio. If he's healthy and shooting well we maybe stand an outside shot. Particularly if C3PO gets his obligatory soft tissue injury.

- Donovan to ball out and cement his 2019 superstar status instead of that sophomore end of 2018 slump we saw
- Gobert does better on the perimeter but still gets torched too much. Gives Capela fits on the roll on the offensive end, but will also have a game or two where he gets benched for Favors late since they can't play both at the same time vs the Rockets and Favors will have a couple of nice games.
- Rubio completely disappears on the road, shows up at home but it won't be enough by that stage. Basically stamps his exit pass in the offseason
- Royce has one game where he looks dominant defensively on the perimeter similar to Exum last year
- Raul Neto outplays Rubio for at least two games, people start to learn about how good Neto is (assuming he actually plays)
- James Harden won't get as many FTs but will drill all the step back 3s in the world
- CP3 goes nuts
- Snyder outcoaches Pringles all series but Pringles has too much talent for Snyder to overcome

Last year vs UTA in the playoffs
CP3 + Harden's combined FGs for each game

17-41
19-40
20-44
20-45
14-34
---
44.11%

I think DM has improved a ton this season defensively and CP3 is older and injury prone. However Harden took it to another level, is better than ever.
One key thing is Utah defense invites mid-range shots and if CP3 and Harden make those again as they did in the past, Utah will either need a heroic or X-factor performance from someone on offense.

I'm hopeful because following the departure of Ariza and Mbah a Moute, HOU is 18th best defense in the league now and Utah struggled against their switch-all defense last postseason, and should almost certainly do better now.

Many of y'all said we lost to Houston last year because of the Rubio injury. Well, we have him healthy plus we added Korver. It's time to see if those excuses were right or wrong.

In all seriousness, this matchup is on DL. Either his faith in the team pays off, or we get beat by the same team as last year with almost the exact same roster as last year.

I have faith though. We need Donovan to become a super star to win this series. If we lose the series, it isn't the end of the world. If we win the series, it's the beginning of a whole new era of title contention in Jazz basketball history.

Neither Rubio or Korver have played in a week.

This feels eerily similar to the Boozer/D-Will vs TMac series. Everyone expects us to get rolled but the Jazz have too much heart and determination to go down and eventually take down the favorites late in the series.

Jazz in 7
