Had Lebron actually attacked the basket, perhaps he'd be the one with the ring right now. Lebron became CJ Miles the last 3 games. He chilled 30 feet away from the basket and chucked up the first 3 pointer he could.

I just have visions of another shooting guard that can't shoot. In the end, he has to be able to shoot enough to keep the defense honest. Brewer was as big a liability as he was an asset since on defense Kobe et. al. could just take time off and rest. If this guy has a better mid-range game and can develop at least a decent 3-pt shot he will be far better and it will have been a good pick. As it is, I think it is a big meh pick. I sure hope he proves me wrong.

My understanding is unlike Brewer, he CAN shoot, just not from deep. I think with his DESIRE and youth, hitting the weights and working with Horny will do the trick. Brewer simply had a broken shot, and seemed to lack either the drive or confidence to get it repaired...

Five things to keep in mind.

1) His shooting mechanics are excellent. Beautiful to watch really.
2) He improved from 19% to 29% from his freshman to sophomore years. Very solid and a good sign.
3) He's still very young. We're not talking about some senior who shot 29% from three. Again, he was only a sophomore.
4) His team sucked and I'm sure the number of double or even triple teams he received were quite large.
5) Look at stud's three point percentages: Kobe, Wade, Lebron, Carmello. None of them are good, let alone very good. I'm not anointing Burks the next chosen one, just pointing out that other abilities/stats seem more important.

I also agree with everyone's optimism about this kid. He has an edge to him that this team desperately needs. Deron was that edge for us before. I hope this kid can develop in that direction. Although, after the injuries, Deron was a bit more timid. Let's pray Burks avoids that. Don't worry, I already knocked on wood.

While he may not be able to shoot the long ball right now he is no brewer. Brewer relied on playing the passing lanes and cutting hard to the basket hoping deron would find him. While burks can create his own shot and has a quick first step. Burks won't be a liability on offense!

I don't think I'm as rosy on him as most, but I will say this pick is anything but meh. He could be Evan Turner (if Evan Turner never figures it out [and it's not looking good]), a Maggette but whose strength is speed and is a willing passer, or possibly even better (I don't want to sacrilege). Long story short, he's going to be really good or he's going to be a punchline/sad story. My gut tells me it's the former.

A meh pick is Battier in the top ten (who I love, but come on).

Burks does not rank well on defense as far as far as steals, blocks, etc., and is not good coming onboard on 3 point percentage. Burks himself stated he did not do all that he could do on the defensive end. I wanted to look at the positives he brings in, so I pulled those stats that make him look like a possible steal at the 12th pick..

Burks is first on player efficiency rating. We got a heck of a player at the 12th pick offensive wise, and an absolute steal if he learns to focus his skills equally on the defensive end and can shoot the 3.

I like the stats. Heck, worst case scenario, we now have a very solid bench player that can run the floor, get into lanes, get to the FT line, and at times, carry the second team offensively. Great role player.
