What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Here is the best possible scenario... We sign Tobias Harris... to do so we have to waive both Favs and Neto (plus FA capholds).

We then trade our 2020 first round pick, Dante Exum, Jae Crowder, tony Bradley and Kyle Korver (once he is guaranteed) for Mike Conley.

Conley
DM
Ingles
Tobias
Rudy

Bench
Royce
Niang
Grayson
2019 pick

We can add someone through the room exception and hand out some decent flier one year minimum make good deals. You might play Ingles more with bench units to get playmaking.
Don't think you have to waive Neto, and if they did, I'm sure they would try to re-sign him.

D’Lo is the best possible outcome for the jazz this offseason.

Outside of Tobias, I agree. I think Russell and Donovan would create a very dynamic backcourt for the next decade. And Russell would seem like the kind of guy fine being Robin to Donovan's Batman.

It’s very close... cap is expected to be 109M but if playoff revenue comes in lower could be 108. I also don’t know if Dante’s cap number is 9 or 9.6.

If it’s 9.6 then we are $200-300k short. We’d have to hope Neto cleared waivers to sign him... I think someone would pick him up.

Could waive and stretch Korver and have ample room to maneuver

I don’t get the hate on D-Lo. Dude is 22, an All-Star, and his max is less than anyone else we’re talking about by a significant margin. The other guys may be better now, but Russell could easily end up being the best player in 2-3 years out of our attainable FA wish list

Waivers dont exist for guys who don't have their options picked up, at least I dont think they do. He'd be a UFA free to go wherever.

My best scenario:

#1 - Korver retires

#2 - We renounce Rubio, Thabo and Udoh

#3 - We waive Favors (after #1, #2 and #3, we have $40 million)

#4 - We sign D'Angelo Russell for 4 years and $100 million ($25 per year)

#5 - We re-sign Favors for 3 years and $36 million all guaranteed

We have last year's 50 win roster but we improve our PG position by adding a very promising player for the present and long term. If we have to give Russell the full max ($27+), we have the money to do that AND keep Favors between $12 and $13 million.

What about Rozier?

It’s not a team option... it is non guaranteed so if we want to clear him we waive him. He’d need to clear waivers... only reason I know is it has been discussed at length with Favors.

Korver retiring doesn’t mean he doesn’t get paid... we could waive and stretch him and reduce his cap hit to like 1.2m so essentially the same thing.

This assumes Favs clears waivers and that he would come back... not completely out of the realm of possibility but those things would need to happen.

He’s had injury and immaturity issues... is a bad defender and is an inefficient scorer who likely doesn’t get much more effecient unless he figures out how to get his historically bad ft rate up. He might be empty calories...

Athletically he has some limitations that make me believe he doesn’t have the upside some young guys have. There are some things to like but also red flags.

Tobias walker and Middleton are clearly better options... Russell is a pretty big gamble on a max deal.

Almost positive this isnt true. If this is the case, what is the benefit to team in being non-guaranteed vs team option?

You are wrong... why does something have to benefit the team?

Non guaranteed contracts become guaranteed if the player is not waived by a certain date. Waiving the player gets the salary off the books... and the player goes through the normal waiver process.
