How Did Draft Lottery Impact Jazz

The draft lottery was crazy in a fun way. How do you think it impacted the Jazz free agency or trade targets?

Here are the draft results:
Number) Team (movement up/down)
1) Pelicans (+7)
2) Grizzlies (+7)
3) Knicks (-2)
4) Lakers (+7)
5) Cavaliers (-3)
6) Suns(-3)
7) Bulls (-3)
8) Hawks (-3)
9) Wizards (-3)
10) Hawks (-3)
11) Timberwolves (-1)
12) Hornets (even)
13) Heat (even)
14) Celtics (even)

I think the Grizzlies will take Ja Morant #2, so I would think they are more eager to move Conley. On the other hand, I expected Jrue Holiday to come available, but I keep hearing that now the Pelicans might not trade AD and instead make a push for the playoffs next year.

Also sucks that Lakers moved up. You know James was going to push them to trade whatever pick they had for a vet, and the #4 pick will get a much better player than #11 would have.

#1 West gets a better chance to improve. NOLA and LA should be better almost immediately due to the draft. NOLA will turn AD to more value and LA might turn their pick into AD. Regardless, the original order would have been better for us.

#2 Memphis at #2 either makes Conley much more available or less available. I think it keeps him there to mentor Morant. Others think Morant makes Conley immediately expendable. Since we are one of a tiny group of Conley suitors, should be interesting.

#3 Jrue won't be available and it's likely Randle won't either. NOLA has no reason to rebuild.

#4 Miami didn't get lucky. I see them as a team who will make moves. They already dumped Tyler at the deadline for savings. I see then very active since they have such an average pick. They have some guys I would have interest in (Winslow, Olynyk, and maybe even Waiters).

Memphis will move Conley.

I think there is an outside chance NO trades AD and Jrue... Lakers and Knocks will go hard for AD but does the loser of that sweepstakes then say “hey what about similar assets for Jrue?”

Suns rebuild just got longer... same with Cleveland none really affects us.

Dallas got weaker... their pick conveys and now their 2021 pick will convey... 2023 is top 10 protected... so if Zinger can’t get healthy their rebuild could stagnate pretty hard.

Luck the Fakers and their lottery ********.

This... those buttholes always get lucky, but the good news is they are incredibly incompetent so they will eff it up.

Randle isn’t going to want to resign, Zion plays the same position and athleticism aside they have somewhat similar games. I don’t see Randle wanting to resign as a backup or to play out of position as a center.

If I am NO I like the Lakers' offer better now, not just because the pick went from 11 to 4, but because you are now trading for Ingram and company to be support to Zion instead of trying to make Ingram the top dog on your team.

Also, this is basically a do-over for NO. Most people think they screwed up the AD scenario by spending to little time on team building and internal development in favor of trying to compete as soon as possible. I would hope that NO would learn from the last mistake and trade win-now players (Like Jrue) for young players/picks that will be ready to help them compete in like 3-4 years.

Randle absolutely loves it there and they love him. Could he leave? Sure. But if AD gets traded, I think NOLA starts Zion and Randle at PF and C. Randle has played C before and I'm not really sure what Zion is.

This seems to happen a ton in the nba, a hard luck team all of a sudden gets the #1 pick. I’m pretty sure the Lakers and others tampered the hell out of the pels and nba turned a blind eye to that whole deal, so give them top pick.

Agreed. When a team is on the outs they happen to get the #1 pick which revitalizes the team.

I broke it down once. Not going to spend the time again but shortly after Katrina happened guess who got the #1 pick. When lebron left the cavs? Yup. When Washington wizards had just had a gun in their locker room? Uh huh. When Chicago sweetheart and native Derrick rose was coming guess what team got the pick? You got it. When Cleveland native and sweetheart lebron was available guess who got the #1 pick. There isnt a case for tampering every year but when big players can swing a market that has had the biggest crisis of the year... lady luck just happens to come. It smells sometimes.

I will say, I enjoyed the Cavs getting screwed and seeing the look on Dan Gilbert’s son as their draft position dropped. Does that make me a bad person?

No. I know he’s had serious health issues but their luck was excessive and annoying at some point... he had an entitled this isn’t fair look and I enjoyed it.

Glad to see the Lakers catch a break, too.

Because yea, its tough for the Lakers, they didn't get the number 2 pick in the draft last season after getting it for three years in a row and had to settle with signing Lebron in the offseason. It must be really hard to be a Lakers fan, their organization deserves to finally catch a break.

I really doubt it's luck. They've moved up in their last 4 consecutive lotteries. League is giving them an asset to trade for AD. So they'll have Lebron + AD + FA and ESPN is happy again.
