What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Caruso is interesting, but he only played in 25 games this year. He played in 37 last year. For the most part, he has been able to play freely while his team is destined for the lottery. He intrigues me, but to say he is anything proven is pretty hasty.

I love the Dinwiddie idea. If Brooklyn would trade him for our late first, we gotta consider it. I don't think they will, but I would.

Before Dinwiddie was proven he was unproven...

I remember watching Caruso in summer league... his energy (even in that setting) was awesome and he was highly entertaining. Bring him in for the price of a budget backup pg and watch as he grows into the MVP. My only worry is if DM want to share the limelight.

I don't know if it's been discussed I wouldn't be shocked if it had but Meyers Leonard I could see the Jazz getting. He hasn't lived up to his potential yet but he been balling out on Warriors and he a stretch tower look along with Gobert

While Caruso played only really got in the rotation for March and April he played really well... and he helped that ****** team win...

In the 18 games he played at the end of the season as a rotation player he had a positive or even plus/minus in 15 games. The three games he was negative in were @Toronto, @GS, and OKC

Well everybody was unproven before they proved themselves. Dinwiddie has had a 5 year career and even as the 6th man, he has started more games than Caruso has even played.

That's the joke my man... It's like investing in Amazon... you wanna buy stock now or would you have rather bought in when they first went public. The time to invest in Dinwiddie was 3 years ago... now you pay full price.

Give Alex 4/$16M... it will look ridiculous when Woj reports it... then it will end up being an incredibly valuable deal... even if all he becomes is a solid backup.

I'd give up a pick for Dinwiddie in a second... I really don't think he's going to be available. Not saying Alex is better... just saying having Spencer now is good... finding the next Spencer and getting him cheap is better.

I agree with everything you're saying. And I like Alex. I think he would be a solid get if we miss out on the bigger guys.

I say we get him either way... Can we start a GoFundMe to get a billboard or some ****?

What's the lower limit on what you would consider a successful off season, guys and gals?

So you're asking what is the least we expect to call our offseason a success?
Yep.... I'm asking what is the absolute minimum you would require for the Jazz to do in order for you personally to call the off-season success.

For example, signing KD and trading for Conley is obviously on the upper tier of outcomes and almost everybody would call that a success... but we are not talking about dream scenarios here... I'm talking about the absolute worst case scenario that you would still call a success...

It's pass or fail... did we get Caruso? Yes... pass. No... fail.

Honestly... I'd like to see us get a better stretch or playmaking big... so lower limit we miss on Tobias, but get Gay (10-12M) or Green ($7-9M) or Niko ($12-15M).

We also address wing or pg with the additional $15-20M through trade or FA, but after like Bogdanovic and Lamb it gets kinda dicey... Delon Wright? Ross? JJ Reddick (not a fan)? Might accept a trade for Bazemore if they gave an asset to do it... not sure they would though.

Use room exception on a quality backup center... Dedmon, Vonleh, O Quinn, Theis, Koufus, Lopez, Ed Davis

Also... we should get Caruso.

So if you end up with:

DM
Ingles
Bogdonovic
Green
Rudy

or

DM
Ingles
Royce
Gay
Rudy

I think the starting lineup is better... something like that might seem pretty meh, but I think it would push us forward enough to get a pass from me. Part of it is really trying to get in on Harris etc... and pivoting with something different and more modern.

I'll add that if we didn't get Bojan I'd hope we could swing a deal midseason for a playmaking wing or pg... Mike Conley being the obvious primary target.

If we don't get a least one long term piece for the franchise this summer, I'll be disappointed. I want improvement for next year, but I want higher upside for down the road even more. I don't think our window is right now. I still think we are couple years off. I would take future draft picks for a bad salary over getting somebody like Kevin Love or Mike Conley who maybe elevates us another round.

It's either get the piece that helps us contend right now (Kawhi, Kemba, KD, Tobias, AD, etc.) OR get guys or picks who hopefully grow with Donovan to create a contender in a few years.

Also, I want to take some shots at some younger, unproven guys who might end up pretty good. Instead of spending millions on guys like Thabo, Udoh and Jerekbo, I hope we target guys who are young and still have upside (Caruso, Josh Jackson, guys like that).

In a couple years, we won't have this cap space and we won't have Joe Ingles playing like he has been.

The time is now. I've known this since the early part of Donovan's rookie season. The FO has known it too.

And if we get that great piece (a max free agent type), then let's do it. If we don't, we shouldn't go get Love or Conley who I don't believe are the answer.

that is kind of where I am. This is as good a window as any... there will always be another GS or Big three team. We don't have to go all in (selling picks and ****), but DM on his contract is a huge competitive advantage. I'd love to get long term pieces like Tobias... but if we can't a pivot to playing more modern and acquiring older pieces or pieces that are just better fits would at very least give us an idea of what it looks like.

I've brought up Rudy Gay... he's old but still so productive and king of exactly what a modern PF looks like and is a really good fit. So say he only has a couple years left at a solid level... you get those two years plus you see how it works and hunt for a younger version of what he brings.

I'd like to see them acknowledge the flaws through moves... not lip service... saying we need more shooting is great but when you bring back Favs Exum and Ricky your actions don't necessarily jive with your words.
