Because I think both of them represent desperation. To get Conley, we are going to have to give up more than just the incredible amount of cap space it takes to pay him the next two years. We are going to have to shell out a 1st rounder or 2 and probably players too.

Love will cost us less to get, and cost us less the next two years. His other two years suck, but if we give up so much for Conley, we will pay him too. I guarantee the next 4 years of Conley will cost around the same as the next 4 years of Love.

Both still represent the same thing - an older player in the twilight of his career making too much money to hopefully get us to the point where we won't get embarrassed in the 1st or 2nd round. It's ludicrous to think Conley or Love will get us past Golden State even without KD.

They are both old... that is where the comparison stops.

Conley was a top 30 player last year, unlike Love. He plays a position and in a way that is more valuable in the playoffs, unlike Love. So he won't get played off the floor. He was healthy last year, unlike Love. He had the second best year of his career last year, unlike Love. The rules and way the game are officiated are bending to compliment guys like Conley... Love is becoming a dinosaur. Conley can create offense, unlike Love. Conley is owed half what Love is, but unlike Love he is not overpaid... not at all. Top 25 in scoring, top 15 in assists, all on 57% TS and an insanely low 1.9 turnovers per game. The package of being a two way player, good shooter, and most important a big time playmaker are rare to find in one player... He is worth every penny.

Other than that they represent the same thing.

Tobias ain't getting us past GS unless there are injuries or other players develop, Conley is the same, Kemba is the same... Unless we get LeBron or KD we ain't getting past GS unless we are lucky or have other things workout... Conley makes us a conference finals contender and if you have some luck maybe more... its really all you can build for in the NBA.

Again... remember how GS was built. They swapped Ellis for Bogut (who was really injury prone), got Iggy (why bother if he doesn't move the needle right?), had to have Lee get hurt so they could discover Draymond...

So yeah in a vacuum Conley doesn't make us a western conference winner... but he is absolutely one of the steps that could make us that.

Where do you get this stuff? There are 50 players in the NBA I'd rather have than Conley. Conley got to be the main chucker on a team that was one of the worst teams in the whole league.

Conley is a good player. I'll give him that. But he does ZERO things at an elite level. The NBA Playoffs are about matchups. Sure, Conley makes us better, but it's more like lose to the Rockets in Game 7 better not compete for anything substantial better.

Conley is overpaid, injury prone and getting old. I would take him, but I wouldn't sacrifice assets for him.

Getting better is what we are trying to do... if we lost to the Rockets in 7 with Conley that'd be huge improvement over the dog **** we put up.

I'm stating facts... there were not 30 players that played better than Mike Conley last year. 21 pts. 6.4 assists... 57% TS and 1.9 TO … We aren't talking about a dude that chucked on a bad team we are talking about a guy that did that with incredible efficiency in spite of having nothing around him. Played 70 games even though he was held out of the last 6 at the end of the season because they had nothing to play for. Just because he is old doesn't mean he isn't good. Ya boy Rozier could only dream of having a season like that.

His team still sucked even though he put up such good stats. I'm sure there are other players on bad teams who put up some great stats too.

There are other guys I would rather have than Conley (Siakim, Richardson, Capella, Nurkic, etc. and guys like that), but those names above are all better prospects than Mike Conley and/or had better or comparable seasons too.

The crazy thing - almost every single name up there makes less than Mike Conley's almost $70 million for the next two years. Pass on Conley.

Locke made a great point today wile talking to Tony Jones. There are a lot of centers on the market this offseason and only like 4 or 5 teams that need a center, therefore a good backup center can be had for cheap. In particular he said would you rather have Dewayne Dedmon, Ed Davis or Kenneth Faried for around $3 million and then use the rest of the $18 million you're giving Favors on someone else or use his contract as a trade piece, or would you rather have Favors at $18?
