Just my opinion...

The penalty was too harsh. Yes, he shoved him. But that shove could do absolutely zero damage. It was classless and unnecessary, but not worthy of the fine AND ban this postseason AND ban ALL of next season.

I think he should been fined by the NBA, banned for this postseason, banned for any Raptors or Kyle Lowry team for next year, and he should have had to make a donation to Lowry's foundation. If he didn't apologize publicly, he should also be banned for all of next year.

The penalty does nothing productive. It's all punitive. They should have found a way to turn into something positive instead of just hammering a guy who made a mistake in a very bang bang scenario.

Players punch, shove, push, kick, trip, cuss, throw tantrums during games and they aren't banned sometimes at all. An owner got caught up in the moment when a player literally jumps on his lady friend's lap full speed.

A little too harsh in my opinion.

I think Lowry just made a judgment in that instant that he might be able to save the ball and he went for it. It was a bad judgment though and became reckless towards those fans. I'd be pissed if I were that fan too. It was a really dangerous move. But **** happens... including a shove. And then you move on. I think Lowry should have been immediately apologetic to the fans for putting them in harms way and afterwards the owner should have quickly apologized to Lowry to the tune of, "sorry man but you came in like a freight train and my reaction was that I was pissed about it". Then they could have met the next day and the guy could have as an owner apologized and brought awareness to fan/player interactions and Lowry could have apologized for misjudging it and going a little too hard into the crowd and explained that it was unintentional.

It’s pretty simple, don’t want the risk of having a player running into you by going after a loose ball? Don’t get court side seats. Literally sit anywhere in the arena and you’ll never have this problem.

I have a friend that gets so emotionally tied up in Jazz games that his wife now makes him DVR the games and he can only go back and watch the ones where the Jazz win.

Him throwing the remote one game after the Jazz blew a lead late in a game was the last straw for her. Guess she didn’t like getting accidentally hit with it lol.

Certainly you don’t believe that players and fans have anywhere near the investment made into the game and therefore have equal the emotional attachment which equates to being held to the same standard, right?

Players who behave poorly absolutely should be punished. I don’t excuse players like Hood who break phones. However, I absolutely understand why Westbrook might react negatively after a hotly contested playoff game to a fan clearly trying to provoke a reaction.

Fans? I’ve made it clear my stance on the poor behavior on fans throughout this thread. If you haven’t read my posts, then my summary is that the nba would be better served toning down the fan interaction in games. The whole “6th man” mentality is a detriment to the game as it encourages fans to become too involved and behave poorly imo. The nba would be better served by:

1. Players: Leveling severe penalties (suspensions, not fines) to nba players who behave poorly. I’d love for far more technicals to be handed out to players. Far more. I’m sick and tired of players whining to refs nonstop. Green and cp3 talk to the refs 100x more than their own teammates. That shouldn’t be. Our very own Jingles even puts his arms over refs to talk to them. That should be a tech imo.

Should players be held to the same standard as fans? No. When a player fresh off a tough loss is coming off the court, leave them alone. If they react, they should receive a strong punishment, but nothing like what a fan should receive. Players invest thousands of hours perfecting their trade. Fans? Show up and drink too much. Maybe buy a uniform. No where near the same investment. A fan shoving Lowry when he crashed into court side seats for a loose ball makes as much sense as me going after Shamu the Whale after my wife getting splashed in the splash zone. Would anyone excuse my behavior as being “invested” into Seaworld and reacting to protect my wife?

2. Fans: Fans who behave poorly absolutely should be publicly embarrassed and banned from games. I loved what the jazz did to racist *******. We lose nothing by him not attending. No one pays money to hear him taunt Westbrook.

3. Less interaction overall: Move fans and media away from the court. Imo we have too much player/fan interaction. Want to rid the possibility of this incident repeating, why not move the court-side seats? Do we really need 100 cameramen on the court? Get rid of the “wired up” and interviews with coaches between quarters nonsense. Frankly, I’m tired of Drake’s antics. Move his *** several feet away, off the court.

Summary: Lastly, fan behavior is appalling at most athletic events these days. It’s indicative of our lazy and slobbish culture. People go to school in pajamas, put their feet on seats in movie theaters, and take off their shoes on airplanes because of “comfort.” They feel like a ticket entitles them to dirty and destroy whatever they want. Fans today believe that a ticket entitles them to do and say anything they want in an arena. Overall, we need to change the way we dress and behave. We’ve swung too far one way.

If your girlfriend gets drilled courtside and you really are pissed off and want to defend her but your only form of defense is a weak-a** shove off like the one that Mark Stevens gave to Lowry. Would you really call that a form of self defense?? That's what were going with huh? Stevens is a hero for defending his wife who got plummeted, so he shoved Lowry with the force of 9 year old girl? That's it? I guess if you were defending your girlfriend, wife, or whatever, that weak childish shove is acceptable in some eyes. What a hero he was, he really defended her honor with that shove. Your friend is lacking in the maturity aspect of life and has also gave up his control and balls in his relationship. He gets so mad that he throws a remote when the Jazz blow a lead? You CANNOT touch a player for any reason. Black and white, there is no grey area. If you sit courtside there is a chance you might get whacked in the face with a ball or a player dive to save a ball. Potential price you pay sitting so close to an amazing sporting spectacle.

Whether it was a gentle shove, a hard push, a kick in the teeth is irrelevant. This is 100% the principle involved. This jerk nor any fan has a legitimate excuse to ever put a hand on a player

Just bought a 2018 Black Subaru WRX STI. I'm gonna black it out more and more as I identify things that should be made black. It already has Utah max window tint with the exception of the top of the front windshield.

Mine is spoiler-free (I think my opposition to spoilers has been well established on jazzfanz).

I'm going to remove everything on the outside that says "STI" and replace outside emblems and such with all black ones or just remove them completely. I think I will also eventually paint the highlighter yellow brake callipers black.

Again, my car is already well tinted to Utah max with the exception of the top part of the front windshield.

This a a fun car to drive. Like REALLY fun! I've never had a car that can corner like this car can and I've had a WRX before.
