What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

If the Knicks or Nets are still willing to offer the max for a long-time deal, no effect. If they become gunshy about paying a guy $38M to rehab for 25% of his contract length, it's going to be massive and he'll opt in to his last year with the Dubs and cause them to go deep into the luxury tax (assuming they max Klay out).

I have no doubt KD will take the money as that's ultimately what he wants, but not knowing how KD is going to respond to this injury carries a ton of risk. If KD comes back and scores 20 PPG, you've whiffed. You need him to play at a max level.

He will be back and be fine. I think the Nets and Knicks still offer full max and he’d be ahead of guys like Tobias. If Kyrie and KD go to Brooklyn they will still be good. If he goes to NY and no one else goes too they can roll their space forward and tank a year. Can go after AD in free agency and keep the young guys and picks they’ve collected.

I still can’t imagine Nets picking Tobias over KD even with the injury. KD could move slower and still put up an easy 25 per game.

I wonder how the injury will effect Durant’s feelings towards the Warriors front office. It appears they mismanaged this pretty badly. We’ve heard that his workout on Friday went terribly, we’ve heard that they were frustrated that he wasn’t putting himself out there for his teammates, and then they throw him out there without a minutes restriction? I’d be pretty pissed off if I were him and all that happened.

I wonder if he had his own consultants. I would not trust team doctors in this scenario. The no minutes restriction was weird especially for a soft tissue injury... he played 12 of the first 14 minutes... that’s a little bit of an issue.

He may want the familiarity as he rehabs but I’m guessing he’s pissed... his agent should have protected him too... if he didn’t get him an independent consultant he might be on the chopping block.

Here is what I don't get - after his first minutes in the game, he went to the bench and they iced his calf. Then, he went right back out. Usually, you ice after a game or if you do ice, you allow time to slowly warm the muscle back up.

I'm no Dr., but seems that Achilles had a better chance to snap when iced up.

That's true. I've had issues in both achilles and was always advised by doctors and PTs to never do physical activity right after icing as the achilles has a restricted blood flow and the icing further restricts the blood flow. This has shades of Memo's injury.

With this whole KD Achilles injury thing, does this make a guy like Harris more likely to want to sign in Utah, with KD out, it opens things up in the west and for Utah considerably. If the jazz adds a max caliber player, IMO that makes us a definite contender with No KD.

I don't know really... like I don't think it changes things for us that much or at all really. If there is a sense that the league is more wide open then more teams will be in "go for it" mode. I think there will be more competition for good players as more teams will feel they have a shot at a title. Teams that are collecting picks could benefit tremendously. Teams that need to offload max players that are older may benefit. I think those things were likely to happen either way though... assuming KD left.

If Brooklyn pivots (or maybe he is the guy they wanted all along) to Tobias then I think we lose no matter what happens with KD. We may regret not putting up the two firsts that Memphis wanted for Conley on the table.

It's not clear where KD was headed in free agency before the injury. Several teams will still probably offer him a max deal. I suppose BRK could pivot and pursue Tobias if they don't want to wait. That would take Tobias off the table for the Jazz.

This has little to no bearing on if Harris wants to re-sign with the Sixers or sign with the Nets instead imo.

**** it. Starting to convince myself Exum’s gonna come back a monster and put up 12/7/5/2 this year.
I’m with you. Admittedly, I had the same hope last year. But hope is all we have with him. It’s not even that far fetched if he can stay healthy. His per 36 numbers are pretty decent. But it’s a big if...

I need to see like a full month of good healthy play from Dante before I ever get my hopes up again.

Wow a whole 12 points? What a monster.
Ricky Rubio averaged 12.7 ppg in 28 minutes last year and I don't consider him a scorer at all. We all desperately wanted Rubio gone and he put to numbers similar to what a monster year would look like for X
Sad

To be honest I would love to see a summer of love for the jazz but my gut (and it is a massive gut) tells me it will be a disappointment.

Jazz will get a player like Dario saric and say it was a win. Draft a steady but unassuming draft pick that is safe.

Bring back favors because he is a jazz type of guy. They will claim that favors is better and will be an addition.

Managment will claim that with this summer the jazz are better and able to compete better in the west with all the movement.

He didn't say what the 12/7/5/2 were though... 12 steals, 7 blocks, 5 3 pointers and 2 dunks per game.

There are only so many shots to go around and so many minutes. I think he could be more efficient than Ricky and a better defender if it means anything. Moreover, I have to be realistic. Yes, that would be a monstrous season for him, given his history. If he did that, he’d have something to truly build off off in the summer of 2020, with one year left on his contract, and we would all be salivating, wondering what to expect from him in that expiring year.
