Plan B?

Love it. One of my favorite plan B ideas I’ve seen yet. I think somehow Dragic may also have to be part of it if he picks up his player option this year.

Miami is in a bad spot. Their team salary for next season is something like $141 million already. They've been in the tax so the repeater tax is starting to wear on a team which is stuck in the middle. They don't have a 2021 1st due to a prior trade. They really want to be spenders this summer and next summer, but they have zero flexibility. Their situation sucks, and I bet we could help them and help ourselves.

Players they would love to trade who impact this year AND 2020-21:
Waiters (2 years $12+ per year)
James Johnson (2 years $15+ per year)
Olynyk (2 years $13+ per year)

I would take Olynyk and one of the other two of the contracts above if we got Winslow. I really think he's worth it. Winslow was the team's starting PG last year because Dragic was out. Now that Dragic is back though, I wonder if Winslow becomes slightly more available. Riley is a big fan of Dragic and some think he might retire there. If we got Winslow, we wouldn't have to go the traditional PG route. With Donovan, Ingles and Winslow on the court, we would have guys to run the offense.

Much of the Miami speculation has them having to use a draft pick or other asset to dump Waiters or Johnson. If we would be willing to absorb one or two of those players, I bet Miami would consider trading Winslow.

Only July 7th we’ll trade Favors, Exum, and a first rounder for Kevin Love.

I know I’m in the serious minority because I think Love is a better option than Conley. That doesn’t mean I’m super high on Love though, I just think Conley is a terrible option. I really hope we don’t end up with Conley.

I’m personally looking forward to all the meltdowns coming when we trot out the starting lineup of Rudy Jingles Love Mitchell Exum. Hahaha

What, you don’t want to see the team be significantly better ??

I think best case scenario is definitely trading for Conley. Kemba's not coming here and it's doubtful Harris or Russell will either. If we miss out on Conley I think it's going to be really difficult for us to significantly improve because non of the tier 3 and 4 free agents are going to move the needle much and neither are Goran Dragic or Kevin Love IMO.

Why doesn’t Randall move the meter more. I watched him while playing the Jazz last year and I was impressed. Looked to be able to create some offense and score when needed. That was only a one game sampling so maybe that was just a fluke?

If we opt out of Faves and renounce all crap holds, we have ~34M in cap room.

Satoransky-Caruso-Neto
Mitchell-Exum-Allen
Ingles-O’Neale-1st rounder
Crowder-Portis-Niang
Gobert

We’d retain our 1st(s), still have the upside of Exum, gain major upside in Portis and Caruso relative to their contracts, vastly improve perimeter shooting (lose Favors and Rubio, and gain three guys who shot 39.5%, 48%, and 40.3% from 3 last year), and still have around 15M in cap room after all this. We could even sign Dedmon or overpay for Boban for a 1+1 too so as 1) Not to tie up money next summer and 2) Add a contract that is very tradeable in that it’s expiring and costs maybe like 8-10M and makes facilitating a bigger trade at the deadline easier.

Its amazing how you people will discuss every single possibility knowing none of them are actual possibilities.

You all know whats gonna happen. You just are in denial.

Might as well pin your hopes on these guys and start praying they become great overnight.

Exum
Allen
Our 1st round pick.

Aint nothing else happening. Guarantee it.

So you’re saying we won’t sign any free agents or make any trades?

DL is more likely to run it back with Favors + a cheap free agent or two than trade for Love tbh.

If Plan Z happens take the best from the Stars, the minicamp, pick up Favs option, let Bricky, Ekpe and Thabo go, Korver retires and give the first and 2nd round draft picks and any undrafted free agents a real shot. Let Raul and Bradley know it's fish or cut bait time.

If no Tobias, Russell or other major free agent, my Plan B is:

A future draft pick and minor contracts (Korver, Bradley, whatever) for Winslow, Olynyk and Waiters.

Winslow and Mitchell can run the point. We could have a crazy switchable team with Donovan at PG on defense along with Ingles, Winslow, O'Neale and Gobert.

Miami thinks about it because they are in middle of the pack purgatory and want to avoid the luxury. They also lack a 2021 1st rounder and want to spend big in 2020.

This. Even if our starting PH winds up being Exum until he falls apart or some jojo veteran we can get for cheap. Winslow =

What about drafting Tobias' brother with the 2nd round pick and then tell Tobias sign with us and play with baby bro? Our 2nd round picks have been pretty worthless. If Tobias doesn't sign give the kid a shot with the thought he was a training camp body and nothing more.

None of the Plan Bs move the needle... If all else fails... I'd rather see us eat cap space and give guys minimum deals to fill out the roster. Wait for a potential scenario at the trade deadline. Run it back with maybe a stopgap at PG. Don't want to see even moderate contracts to moderate guys.

You’ve missed the most obvious and most likely “plan B.”
Which is?

Plan Burks?
