Conley Officially a Jazzman

If the Jazz release Favors they are significantly under the cap, aren't they?
I posted this earlier (I think it is correct) that if the Jazz waive all players with cap holds and let Favors, Neto and Niang go they can offer a single FA up to $19,120,132 or split $20,017,290 across two FAs.

Conley 32,511,623
Rudy 25,008,427
Ingles 11,954,546
Exum 9,600,000
Mitchell 3,635,760
Bradley 1,962,360
O'Neale 1,618,520
Min contract 897,158
Min contract 897,158
Min contract 897,158
Min contract 897,158
Free Agent 19,120,132
Total 109,000,000

As Lindsey's biggest critic, I have to give him credit for getting a deal done. And he did it without giving up two players he believes to be key contributors: Favors and Exum.

I doubt he made this deal without gauging the interest of FA's to be like Harris and Walker. Hate to give up Jae, but the reality is that Crowder was much like Booker...tough, likable guys who were inefficient.

Never did like Allen, so meh on goving him up. Picks in the late-mid 20's are easily replaceable.

Jazz now have a very solid main 6 (including Royce) - maybe 7 if Dante rises from the ded

Good deal, imo. Yes, expensive. But Jazz are a better team.

i get tired of the older guy assumption that they must be ready when they come into the league. how many actually are and how many players can immediately jump into the rotation on a playoff team w/ 5 or 6 already established guards/wings like allen had to try to? buddy hield took some years, cj mccollum took years, jj redick took years, etc. all upperclassmen guards. it's a huge step up from highschool to college, and then college to nba whether for an 18 y/o or 22 y/o. you have to get game experience to improve of which he saw very little, but clearly was on an upward trajectory the last quarter of the season from gleague and then back up to the nba. yet exum remains a bust on an unearned contract with the front office still coveting him for some reason. i'm not annoyed they traded allen, i'm annoyed that they continue to prioritize exum + gave up 2 additional firsts. i agree with a win now move, i just don't like the future cost.
I gotcha, and I agree with you in that I'd have rather seen Exum go than Grayson. Late firsts just don't bother me much for what Conley brings, we've got a window this season now. That's incredibly exciting.

the second first we gave up may very well be a high pick

I just like how when he drives, two or three people have to collapse on him. Wish someone would put a video together of him running the pick and roll.

Look at that pass at the 1 minute mark (2:12 too). He played so well off Gasol screens (and then Valanciunas and Noah). Imagine that with Rudy

I don't think you guys realize just how bad Bradley is. He is not a viable backup Center in the NBA by any stretch of the imagination.
Which is exactly why keeping Favors is so huge. Favs picks up half his mins. at the 5 and is a damn good starter if/when Rudy misses games.

Unless some miracle happens with a top tier FA, Jazz are keeping Derrick.
