News, rumors and buzz around the draft and free agency

The trade between the Lakers and the Pels for Anthony Davis is expected to close on July 6th, unless the deal is somehow amended. The Lakers will only have $23.7M in cap space, assuming Davis doesn't waive his trade kicker. This means the Lakers do not have cap room to pursue a max-level free agent. Even if they trade out guys like Mo Wagner and Issac Bonga, they barely have enough cap space to fill out their roster with guys who are mid-level exception-caliber players or less.

As a Wolverine I would be so happy if the Jazz took Mo Wagner. Didn’t they like him from his workout? Trade the current second rounder for Wagner and let him grow into a stretch 4/5

Being aggressive has historically been a euphemism for picking up some cash considerations.

We’ve heard that one... DL has been aggressive at every draft, deadline, etc.

I want a reporter just once to be like
“ per source team will be thumbing their holes and mailing it in tomorrow night... said don’t expect much cuz they just don’t care and it is 2 for 1 night at swig”

Probably not. Memphis either wants to draft their own guy, or trade it. There's multiple reporters saying that the pick is already on the market.

Yep. It's also evident that the Jazz think they can get a player around 40 or so in the draft that is the same caliber of what they could have drafted at 23.

In fairness we actually made a big move this time. I'll be shocked if we don't buy at least one 2nd rounder tomorrow, it doesn't cost cap space or any assets and we could potentially get a steal in the 2nd round this year.

The Jazz probably don't have to trade anything to get Wagner, LA wants to dump his contract

I’m not complaining we made an aggressive move... more commenting on that one one saying we are being aggressive is par for the course.

I believe it though in regard to the draft.
2013 - Traded up for Burke and Gobert, traded for Neto pick.
2014- Stand pat take Dante (impossible to trade up in that draft), trade out of 2nd rd
2015 - Stand pat and take Lyles and Hanlan
2016 - Trade out of 12th pick for George Hill. I think this was a good move, considering half of the first round picks taken this year are either out of the league or on different teams now. Traded out of 42 for 52 and drafted Bolomboy
2017 - Treyd Lyles for Donovan Motha****in Mitchell. Traded up for Bradley
2018 - Stand pat for Grayson. Trade out of 52 (a lot of teams don't have a draftable player at this spot in the draft)
2019 - Trade out of 23 for Conley. I think they will make a move in the 2nd. ****, it's almost guaranteed that player will make the team considering the roster spots we have now lol.

Get Mo Wagner and Caruso in a s&t for our 4 million dollar trade exception.

Also read that Lakers want to push AD trade to July 31 so they can have cap space.

And Bucks are likely to waive GHill and his big toe. If he stays he counts as 25 million, but he is only gauranteed 1 million.

New Orleans is not inclined to help the Lakers get to a max slot - in fact. . . I’d say it’s in their best interests to execute the trade as soon as they’re able to. LA has to either send out more assets to get it done and sacrifice their bench. . . or they have less than a max and have to go bargain shopping. Screw them. There’s no way I’d put that deal off by 30 days. None.

George Hill was never going to see that $25 million. Didn’t matter what team he ended up on, he was always going to get cut this offseason.

I sometimes internally chide the FO for "being aggressive" really to means "passive aggressive". They do make deals though and have usually been active in some capacity during the off-season or the deadline. It's just the Jazz usual MO is to pull something out of the butt that no one had any clue about.

But they would still have to get rid of conley. No way they were gonna keep him.

Baynes is a solid backup center... those cost less than 5M... DL do you hear me a backup center is really cheap... maybe we send Favs, they send Baynes and the 22. We both end up having a little space to shop and fill needs. They need a starter we need a backup.
