What's new

We signed Emmanuel Mudiay

It would seem most Mudiay opinions posted in this thread arent really up to date..

First off Mudiay had a way bigger leash than is remotely reasonable at this level of ball because the Knicks were atrocious, and compiled some big statlines in the process -- there was plenty of ugly nights too.

He's a strong defender, that is understated! strong frame, not really like Exum at all, they arent necessarily redundant, Mudiay is much more natural taking it to the rack..

MUDIAY does struggle around the rim tho, dont be confused, he's no d mitchell.. He has great potential not in this area tho, he is limited, he's not baron davis he's far less explosive...

Honestly Coach Fizdale did nothing short of a miraculous job last year with Mudiay, it is QS duty to keep the progress going. No way Utah signs him if not for all of last seasons progress..

Good luck to him! If QS can integrate him to the system he should be better off for it moving forward.

smart post

Very good post.

Fizz actually did perform a miracle with Mudiay. Let's face it, Mudiay was thiiiiis close to being a shoe salesman working at Pay Less shoes. Fizz took him on as a project - those are his words, not mine - and did get some good results. Fizz did something really cool with Mudiay and some other young players. Last year he treated them, took them, to an NBA Finals game, Warriors v Cavs. Interesting motivation technique.

Bullock will work out fine. One of the better signings in all free agency this year.

And by the way, thee best signing in all free agency this year is not Kyrie or KD. Nope. Elfrid Payton was the best signing in all free agency this year. You Jazz fans wish you had him. Hell, 29 NBA teams wish they had him. We do!

I put NYK over/under at 32.

And that's only if they decide not to tank again.

I'm not sure how good Fiz is from an X's and O's standpoint, but I do really like his as a developmental coach and as a guy who can win over a locker room and get everyone on the same page. Shame the Knicks organisation is bad but it gives Fiz another year to try and make someone like Knox who has all the tools to be good into a player, see what he can get out of RJ Barrett, continue to work with Mitchell Robinson on not fouling on every 2nd possession, etc.

I like the Knicks young core I just think they really could have used a PG who is able to control the pace and get the team into sets. Too many shoot first kinda guys on the team last year. I'd be trying to flip Trier for an asset if I could though, I don't think he's going to be anything more than a microwave bench guy which he already is.

Thanks for the kind words. I have the Knicks winning 22 this year.

I was close last year (said 20, they only got 17), and I will be close this year. 22 wins, 60 loses. That's a fact. Once the losing sets in, it is hard to shake.

A guy in a newspaper today said that the Knicks look exactly like an expansion team. Allowed to get a player from one team, another guy from another team , a draft pick here.. That's what we are. An expansion team. Or a Chinese dinner -- one from column A, two from column B...just a mess

Jazz should have tried to lock him up for at least two years.

I really like the signing. He is only 23. There is still some potential there. People forget just how young 23 is and its also right about where things start to click. Im quite sure he can get better.

1. Fizz really never had a chance to show any X and O skills. We were so bad he really was just trying to get the guys to play basic b-ball. One thing of note: anytime we came out of a timeout with a play drawn up from Fizz...it always went bust. Now is that Fizz weakness with the X and Os, or the player's incompetence?

And, yes, Fizz is beloved. Just watch the way LeBron and Wade are so humble before him. Like little kids to their beloved teacher. They truly love the guy and appreciate his way with players. Our guys love him, and oddly enough here in NY, so does our press. There's a lot wrong with Fizz's coaching (17 wins should get a guy around here crucified), but the press really likes him. He handles our media better than any coach I've seen around here.

2. Knox is nothing. The guy bricks everything. He's the biggest disappointment of a year filled with disappointments. Fingers crossed for something more, but the guy (a Kentucky Wildcat!) was outshined by a second round pick who didn't even play college (Mitchell Robinson) and an undrafted rook (Trier).

3. Trier is actually a very good player. No way we flip him.

Let’s say Mudiay refines his game to some degree and becomes serviceable. How big is that for the Utah development staffs rep?

Jazz FO bet on their people.

Who will start as our back up pg? exum or mudiay?

My feeling on this signing is, if your paying him actual nba money 5-10 million that means he has a spot in the rotation, you have to play him. That’s not a good signing, but a one year deal for the minimum means he isn’t guaranteed a rotation spot. He might get a few consistent minutes, if he hurts the team, don’t play him for a few weeks then he earns his way back into a rotation but leave his min short. If he starts fast and balls out. It’s a home run.

So great signing.

For a light Mudiay moment, please watch this one minute clip of Mudiay. The only time us Knick fans smiled all year. And hand it to Mudiay for being honest and having a sense of humor about the whole thing.

I think a lot of this to is giving Quin all the tools for his offense. Aside from Davis, every one of the Jazz's signings have scored at least 15 ppg last year.

All. The. Firepower.
