I’ve been reading a few comments and people really think we gave up too much for Conley? Based on that move alone this off-season was an A.

Then you add us signing the Pacers second leading scorer for 18m a year. Then sign Ed Davis, Jeff Green and Emmanuel Mudiay? This has been the best offseason in Utah Jazz history. It’s not even close either.

My friend who is a huge basketball fan texted me surprised that Jeff Green was still available and we got him on a minimum deal. We’re not done yet either that’s the insane part. I’d bet we sign atleast one more player to a minimum deal and it will be another great signing.

Kawhi going to anywhere but the Lakers puts as as the title favorites as crazy as that sounds. Even if he does go to the Lakers I like our chances with them in a 7-game series.

Conley is underrated on JF and I’m not surprised because the entire league underrated him but he is really ****ing good. The amount of pressure he is going to take off of Mitchell and he can actually get a bucket when we need one instead of scoring droughts for minutes at a time.

The splash uncles Bojan and Ingles shot 41% from 3 on 10.7 attempts per game combined last season. It’s our time, no need to be modest we have a legit shot to win the title this season.

Utah jazz writer Tony Jones loves Jeff Green

I think we had to part with too much to add Conley. I think Kemba would have been better. Especially if it ends up being a one year rental or if he ends up injured for a good chunk of the year. There are definitely concerns there. That kind of move, given his age, injury history, and cost, has to literally pay off right now to be fully worth it.

I'm still really happy with it, but let's not pretend it was a no-brainer brilliant move with no possible downside. It's a significant risk.

But man am I glad to see them finally taking some risks. Gonna be exciting to see where this all goes. We haven't had a full re-tooling of the team like this in, well maybe ever.

GS’s team has been filled with ear young projects you speak of.
Just a cursory glance shows Livingston, Iguodala, Cousins, Bogut on the team right now. In the past they have had David Lee, Leandro Barbosa, McGee, Pachulia, Clark (who turned into a 3-pt machine while he was there), Nick young. Yeah, not a boat-load of A-listers off the bench, but a few just past their prime, and sure some projects as well, but always with fully serviceable and experienced veteran role-players for depth. We are pinning our hopes of depth on Mudiay, Green, Exum and 4 2nd-rounders drafted this year. Not exactly the same.

Where I disagree is the idea that we gave up too much of our future to sign Conley.

I think this offseason has redefined our franchise in a way that is going to have significantly greater impact than what we might have given up if Conley is a one year rental.

Fans, pundits and players see the Jazz in a new light. I think this is going to pay massive dividends, especially if the team does well this year.

I hope you're right, but I'm not sure signing Conley can overcome the glitz and glamour of the coastal cities to perennially bring big-name free agents to the city of Utah. We'll see I guess.

Maybe but that's my concern. We have great to spectacular starters at every position right now, except the 4, and at the 4 we don't really even have anyone basically serviceable. Need at least something of an upgrade there. Can't see bojan filling that, he'd get killed by most true 4's in the league, but my bet is that is what the FO intends. Also I know we are signing dudes at the min but we have taken in more than a couple of projects. Not many championship teams consist of 2-3 all-stars surrounded by 3 or 4 projects. Need at least one or 2 solid vets to fill the gaps. Don't get me wrong I'm ecstatic we finally decided to make those moves we've needed for years. I'm just tempering my expectations and realising we are more likely a 2nd round team now, maybe WCF, but not really a full contender. I hope we are, and I could absolutely be wrong about this with so many unknowns right now, but I don't think so.

Jeff Green is the very definition of serviceable.

Big name FA's? Yeah, we might never get those.

But we have stars in Mitchell and Gobert. We were able to bring in a very good FA in Bogdonavich, and a good vet min signing in Green. Those probably don't happen without Conley. Those signing matter a lot too.

Yes but those were directly in the wake of arguably the biggest signing we may have ever made. And neither of them are Earth-shattering moves. It's not like we got Conley so kawai is trying to decide between LA and Utah. And the discussion was about the future. I don't think that signing is enough to change player attitudes for generations to come. If we have a substantial amount of success then maybe we get some attention for 3-5 years even, but I don't see this changing anything fundamentally about Utah as a preferred FA destination.

Utah quite literally was a preferred FA destination this off-season.

Why?

Donovan Mitchell and Quin Snyder. Thanks DL!

If your expectation is to be getting LeBron, Kawhi, etc etc, that's just unrealistic, tbh. Donovan is our best shot at getting those sorts of players though. So again, thanks DL.

One of the things GSW has been doing really, really well IMHO is finding players who will buy into the philosophy of the team and who can contribute given the core of the team. I wouldn't put Iggy in that same group, though, he's been an absolute key to that team (also Bogut in the beginning). Livingston, Lee, Barbosa, Clark are IMHO at a whole different level in terms of importance. This year they had guys like Looney, McKinnie and Cook giving them really solid minutes, but they are still in the same category where you can find some undrafted guys, some vet min guys, and they will come in and contribute if you pick the right type of players.

Yep because Zanik had nothing to do with it right ? So thanks DL

This is the most excited I have been about an upcoming Jazz season since the late 1990's. People here in Alabama are coming up to me at work, church, and in the neighborhood to talk about the Jazz. Something is happening...

Que?

Our depth is Joe Ingles, Royce O'Neale, Dante Exum, Ed Davis, Georges Niang, Mudiay, Brantley, and probably another FA.

That's pretty solid depth, my man.

Bojan is more explosive than Joe. Ed Davis is one of the leagues best rebounders so don't worry too much

My main question is if Bojan and Joe can coexist, especially against bigger and more athletic teams. Ball handling, passing, shooting, for sure. The rest? We’re going to miss Favors setting picks and rolling, his d, the occasional jumper, etc. Green and Davis can probably offset some of that, I just need to see it in action.

Yeah Davis can rebound and play D. Can he contribute anything on offense? (Maybe he doesn’t have to, not sure.) He’s also a terrible free throw shooter and I don’t know if he adds much on offense.

Favors didn’t have a complete game, but he wasn’t terrible at anything. You can rely on the guy, he won’t really hurt you. And of course he’s excellent Gobert insurance-now if Rudy goes down we have Davis and Bradley and that’s it. We’ll miss him against the Nuggets, OKC, and the Lakers, with or without Kawhi. I will say Bojan helps us more against Houston who I still see as the biggest roadblock.

that’s my reasoning for a B. I get why they went this direction; I just don’t see it as a grand slam quite yet.

Those of you worried about Conley leaving. Even if he does, we’ll have a lot of cap room, and have choices out there. Lowry and a few other point guards are free agents as well.

And we’d still have a great core here.

Which free agents? 2? Vet minimums with checkered pasts? Ok yeah, that's exactly the same. Obvi you don't pay attention to the rest of the league.

Davis doesn't have much of a jumper but he can drive dunk do put backs and such
