(Possible Headline) Donovan Mitchell signs w/ NY Knicks?!!

NY Knicks aren't really a free agent destination. I'm not seeing it...

At this stage though, Mitchell is more likely to recruit players to Utah than ditch the Jazz.

I do think there is a good chance Donovan one day goes to the Knicks. He seems like the kind of guy to go fix them. However, I think it would be way down the road. Like a 3rd or 4th contract thing after he has either...

A - delivered for us with nothing to regret (like Kawhi in Toronto)
or
B - we completely fail him in some way, shape or form.

Age is going to be a factor here. If Donovan plays out his 2nd contract here he will be age 30 before the season of his 3rd contract begins. For a 6’3” guard that relies on athleticism so much to be quite honest with you he will only have a year or two left where he’s at the top of his game and that’s provided he’s healthy over the next 7 years. There’s subtle things here and there that show it’s a thought he has already. I’ve held the opinion Rudy will ride it out and I think Donovan leaves the first chance he gets. I’d rather I was wrong but I just don’t think so. Idk if it’s the Knicks, could be the Nets, could be something else entirely. The danger of going to the Knicks at that point is completely tarnishing your legacy if things don’t work out.

Damian was an exception so why can't Donovan?
Because Damian Lillard is not normal. Donovan is still cut from the AAU, be friends with everyone, kid from NYC. I think Donovan’s a great dude, I don’t in any way shape or form think he’s Dame as much as we all want him to be. Dame is just different, completely different. Rudy is closer to Dames mentality than Donovan IMO.

That’s reasonable. I can live with that I guess.

Oh totally agreed (particularly on his leaving after Rudy is done part).

I REALLY hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see Donovan staying in SLC his entire career and trying to build something dynastic.

The athleticism loss thing at that age is not 100% proven. Dwayne Wade played a long career and he never had a 3 pointer or Donovan's potential on defense. I think Donovan could play until 35 quite successfully.

If Donovan leaves, he leaves. I don't see it happening where we are crushed by his leaving because he is too loyal for that. I see him leaving in a way similar to Favors where both sides hug it out and there are no hard feelings.

Yeah no $ht Sherlock... That’s why I prefaced it by saying “IF Dolan ever gets his head out of his @$$ and/or sells the team”. They actually remind me of the basketcase the Nets were just a few years ago.

I mean D-Wade turned 37 this year and is retired. He hasn’t been high level D-Wade for a few seasons now. At around 33-34 things start slowing down for guards, there are exceptions but Donovan’s best years will be around 26-32 I would place a safe bet on. He can still be a good player after that for another 4-5 years for sure, I’m just saying I don’t think those 4-5 years are a time you go put the biggest market on your back and tarnish your legacy because at that age it would be hard to carry a team IMO and it may very well not work out. Don will look a lot like Kemba IMO. I think Kemba has a couple very high level years left, then I think he starts slowing down.

There was a Knicks fan in here recently bragging about how the Knicks were going to take over the league with Zion Williamson, KD and Kyrie this season. I guess that prediction didn't age well.
