Most of the guys recently taken went in the 140’s the past couple years. Either they were major steals and didn’t get enough credit or the picks now are ****.

I would guess this has to do with choosing more contemporary players in favor of ancient ones, considering that this is strictly a popularity contest and that there is so little reliable frame-of-reference or even compatibility to the modern game.

That’s a big reason I don’t do these. An 80’s or 90’s and onward draft makes sense for that reason.
