USA basketball highlights (Mitchell plays a lot at the Point)

I have a serious question: that facial hair look from Tatum and looks like D Mitchell has it working in the stillframe... Are those still called mutton chops?


The NBA is so fashionable these days we've even got varieties of patchy facial hair looks on display.

Yes, the full side-burns without connecting to a beard would be called mutton chops. It was an English thing in the 1800s. They've kind of got beards though.

Colangelo is really pushing Mitchell as a new face for USA basketball. Mitchell did the welcome to the crowd before the scrimmage as well.

Just young guys who can't grow beards yet trying to grow beards. I feel their pain, except mine would be worse so I don't even bother.
 
Some comments from Bill Simmons' podcast:

Windhorst: ... now we didn't get to see all the practices but Pop did let us see quite a few scrimmages ... So I probably watched them play five scrimmages. ... I think I got a pretty good feel by watching and then I talked to executives who were allowed to watch it and I talked to the USA basketball folks and the guy who exploded off the court, the guy who has made everybody's eyes open up and dominated the week was Donovan Mitchell.

Simmons: I was gonna ask you about that because I had sent some under the radar feelers for like, hey, who knocked everybody's socks off this week and Mitchell was the guy.

Discussion goes on a bit more. This was from about the 5 minute to 10 minute mark in the podcast.
