What's new

2020 Presidential election

Bernie Sanders' Green New Deal, combined with his proposed Healthcare for All, bill would basically nationalized one-third of the U.S. economy. He wants to centralize and unionize energy production, manufacturing (including auto manufacturing), farming/food production, and some transportation. If he were any further to the left, he'd be in China.

I can't imagine that this is going to fly with Democrats, let alone having a chance with Republicans. I'm guessing he's just taken himself out of the race for the nomination.

Republicans have no problem with socialism. Their president just hereby ordered that American businesses should no longer do business with China. So maybe worry about that Sparky rather than worry about what the 3rd or 4th most popular Democratic candidate is proposing.

I'm not 'worried' about any of it.

You seem worried enough to write about it. And this isn’t the first time you’ve written a post “warning” us about the onslaught of “socialism” that’ll provide health care or work to limit the damage of the world’s most imminent threat.

If you don’t like the verb “to worry”, let’s put it this way:

You are scared, concerned, interested, (pick your verb) enough take time and bandwidth to write on this board about what the 3rd or 4th Democratic candidate for president might do to limit the damage of the world’s most imminent threat.

Yet, you are not scared, concerned, interested (pick your verb) when your president is actually enacting socialism (trade wars, handouts to farmers, and demanding that American businesses not trade with China) much to the detriment of the world economy.

Get it? While you fret over what a long shot for president might do, you are ignoring what your president is actually doing.

I think you should adjust your priorities.

This is a thread discussing the 2020 election. This week, Bernie released details of his Green New Deal that will make it almost impossible for him to challenge for the Democratic nomination.

See how that's relevant?

Appreciate your kind advice. I'm not ignoring what the president is doing.

How would anyone know that you’re not ignoring what the president is doing? I just did a quick search and unless I missed something, I haven’t seen you mention any concern for at least 2 weeks (that’s as far back as I went) about trump’s trade war, handouts to farmers, and today’s obviously newsworthy comments. Why’s that? If you don’t want to be accused of ignoring the elephant in the room, you should probably address it at some point.

If you’re able to keep up on what’s happening in clear longshot candidates of the DNC, enough to comment at least, why aren’t you commenting about Donald’s disastrous socialism? Your priorities seem messed up.

Even tea bagging republicans are admitting it:

Are Joe Walsh and Erick Erickson suddenly liberal?

Regarding the trade war with China, no I'm not terribly concerned about it. The U.S. and China have been in a trade war for more than 20 years. The fact that Trump's admin is posing resistance to China, which is historically rare, may or may not be the right move in the long term. He has a group of advisors he's working with that have charted this path. We'll have to wait and see.

At the beginning of August, Trump threatened the tariffs that he's announcing today, after his delegation returned from meetings in Shanghai empty-handed. Giving subsidies to farmers in the meantime, isn't a problem if it's an interim strategy. Trump is pushing the sale of U.S. agricultural products in nearly every trade negotiation he makes, including China. China is extremely dependent upon exports and foreign investment to keep its economy moving. They've been over-leveraged for more than 10 years. Now they are taking a hit and have devalued their currency as a countermove. They're also taking economic and political pressure in Hong Kong. Lets see how they withstand it.

Bernie isn't a "long-shot" candidate. He's been top two or three in virtually every official poll this year, while Biden, as a front-runner, has been erratic. The DNC candidates in this election are weak, and the fact that Bernie is painting himself in a corner with outright socialism will all but take him out of the running. And for what it's worth, Elizabeth Warren is perceived to be just as far left as Bernie is. That's why Dems have started rallying for Biden, warts and all.

Trump is obnoxious and irritating, and he comes off childish at times, but he still has a strong base of support from conservatives and has the Republican party behind him. If the Dems can't find a compelling candidate, he's likely to win again.

Meanwhile, you're something like a liberal stooge who makes an average of 20+ political posts everyday on a message board for the Utah Jazz, repeating the same angry opinion over and over. You're the epitome of the angry Democrat, full of sour grapes, but with nothing to offer.

My concerns are legitimate, as shown by the overall disapproval of trump on this board, this nation, and industrialized world. The stock market, is clearly showing how concerned we all should be with your president's policies.

Meanwhile, your concerns are invalid. Sanders has been losing support as Warren has overtaken him as a clear #2. Sanders is 3rd or 4th depending on the poll and seeing diminishing support. But at least his policies help address the world’s #1 threat, climate change.

You?

* Copy and paste right wing nonsense about socialism.
* Try and paint those addressing climate change as alarmists.
* Ignore the very real socialism from your boy.
* Demonstrate everyday that facts never will get in the way of your Trump worship.

Sanders polled #2 in NH this month. He's not a laggard in the Dem race, and he still has a very strong base of support.

* I'm not copying and pasting right-wing non-sense. Show me where I have. The interview with The Hill's John Solomon I posted this week isn't right-wing nonsense. It would only look that way if you're used to consuming left-wing nonsense. The Justice Department reports on the origins of the FBI's Russia probe will make the Democrats and everyone crowing about Trump-Russia collusion look bad. So go ahead and brace yourself for it.
* I have never talked about climate change on this board. Show me where I have.
* Trump isn't a socialist. He's a narcissistic bully, but socialism is based on centralizing and expanding state power. Trump was elected in 2016 as the lesser of two evils, where the other evil was Hillary. That was a good decision, in my opinion. Bernie Sanders proudly calls himself a "democratic-socialist," whatever that's supposed to mean.
* I'm not worshipping Trump, but I'm telling you objectively, he's still likely to get re-elected.

You're welcome to your concerns, and clearly you like to vent them endlessly on this board. When Utah votes red again in this next election, you'll see if the majority of people on this board and elsewhere really agree with you.

Lol, my favorite part was you being told all your concerns are invalid. Hahaha.

I’m not laughing at you FYI.
