I'm hella big mad yo!
Good post. We have protections such as the bill of rights, checks and balances between the branches of government, etc. It’s not that simple. Even if we went popular vote for president congress will still be very representative of the population.
Yes, there needs to be protections for there but lots of that is built into the system over all.
It’s president. Not dictator. I’m not for just tweaking on part of the process though. I’m in favor of massive change. Lobbying, gerrymandering, EC v popular, term limits...
You seem to think socialism is more than it is. Like an all or nothing thing.Nobody is holding anybody back from practicing socialism. Nobody is forcing these people to keep their evil capitalistic money. Hell I bet most of these people make more than me so they could start sending it to people like me and we can live in this Utopia.
Nothing in life is "basically free" fishon. Nothing. You're being sold a fairy tale. Roads, firefighters, and even social security(running out of money) are all paid through taxes. With all due respect I'm not sure you understand what socialism is and how it's definitely not "free". We're talking potentially 10's of trillions of dollars(potentially 100+) for schooling, environment, and medicare alone. You seem to think socialism is more than it is. Like an all or nothing thing.
We use socialist ideas currently in this country all the time. And we like it.
I like not having to fix my own roads or have a bill if a fireman comes and puts out a fire at my house.
I like that my daughter will go to school pretty much for free.
These are good things. They are also things which would be considered socialist ideas if they didn't already exist and were to be proposed by the left and be instantly shot down by the right.
Thank God they are already implemented

If the electoral college defenders really believed it was the last vanguard against tyranny by the majority, they'd be pushing for that system for governorships as well, which are all directly elected, yes even in states with wide urban and rural divides. It works fine, and gubernatorial candidates don't just campaign in urban centers.

I will disagree with you here. I think you are missing an important aspect of comparing a popular state vote to a popular country vote. Most states have 1 - 3 major population centers. There’s enough time to campaign every where. In a country wide vote that’s not the case.
You hit LA, NYC, Dallas, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Denver, Las Vegas, S.F, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, SLC, KC, Baltimore, DC... and on and on ... no time to hit small pop areas. Hell even medium pop centers would see less love I think. It’s just buying the most bang for your buck in the time you have. We some limiting of that now because each candidate can ignore large parts of the country.
Yeah, I've never been to rally either. Can't imagine spending my free time going to one. I don't need a meet and greet to tell me who I want to vote for.Why does where the candidates campaign matter? Just watch the debates on tv. Research the candidates online. Dont need to go to rallies to understand a candidate.

Most issues arise simply from the fact that it appears to benefit one party over the other at the moment.I agree you don’t. He just made the argument that they would be in ritual areas and I don’t think they will be. I’ve never been to any political rally. So I don’t need to see them.
But something that does change from area to area is the questions asked and policies raised. More policies talked about the better we understand them. This can be easily remedied by mindful selection of questions at debates.
In all I’m fine with popular or EC. I’d go with popular but EC isn’t unjust or racist as some national voice like to proclaim. Sure it can be better but I don’t think it’s some broken thing that needs fixing.
The EC just encourages so so many people to stay home and not vote. That's my biggest problem with the EC.I agree you don’t. He just made the argument that they would be in ritual areas and I don’t think they will be. I’ve never been to any political rally. So I don’t need to see them.
