2020 Presidential election

It's the Democrats who are (or were) up in arms about rigging the nomination for Hillary. Also, she wasn't an incumbent president, so it's not quite the same. Trump is clearly the lead horse for the Republican party though. He's their battering ram.
He is also hated by many many Republicans.

Yeah Bernie supporters and some other Democrats weren't happy about it, but let's not pretend this hasn't been brought up ad nauseum by Republicans since the election. I've heard complaints about it far more often from conservatives on this site than from liberals.

Whether Trump is an incumbent doesn't really change things, especially considering the large contingent of Never Trump Republicans who wish to see him challenged. It's undemocratic and is being done purely to protect Trump.

Obviously it's their primary and they can run it however they want, it's not really the best look though.

Perhaps. I am of the belief that there should always be at least 1 challenger from the incumbent side.

Really wish there was a more effective way to get independent candidates a fair shake for running as well.
Hell ya.
I want there to be no "parties". Just Americans running for president. Then everyone votes for who they like the most. And every vote counts the exact same.

Clinton got what she paid for. IIRC, Sanders registered as a Democrat in December 2015. If Joe Manchin registered as a Republican this year, do you think he would be treated equitably by the Republican Party as a 2020 candidate?

Getting rid of the electoral college and base the winner on who gets the majority (popular) vote would help.

Clinton got 4 million more votes in the primary than Sanders. Is there an argument being made by a credible researcher or pollster who believes all those votes would’ve gone to Sanders if the primary had been run differently?

I would hope so.

Clinton getting more votes, regardless, is not incompatible with Clinton getting better treatment.

I understand. But did the preferential treatment really lead to the additional 4 million votes?

People act like Clinton was chopped liver and Sanders was JFK. I’m guessing the majority of the primary electorate had never even heard of Bernie until 2015. And unlike Obama in 2008, once they did hear sanders, they didn’t want him as their nominee.

Anyone see Joe Biden on Stephen Colbert last night? He may have done well enough to stave off the accusation that he has early onset dementia, at least for the time being. However, he sure comes across as old, tired and lacking much conviction. He keeps repeating his hollow talking point about restoring the soul of the nation, which he expounds upon, when pressed, by citing racial tension in America. I don't think he's really winning over many Democrats, who seem to be more impassioned about at least 3 other candidates. The DNC-approved polls (the ones that are keeping Tulsi Gabbard off the debate stage this month), still assert that he's leading the field. He appeals most to voters over the age of 50.

I think his chance of winning the nomination is 50% at best, and this is only because the other leading candidates are too far on the left. Meanwhile, Andrew Yang makes so much sense when he talks that people can't figure out if he's really in politics or not.

Did anybody see Colbert’s interview of Mayor Pete last night? He’s so much smarter, more nimble, and genuine than Joe. It isn’t even close.

(I’m not endorsing Pete, btw. Or at least not yet.)

There is an age limit on the low end, and I think there should be an age limit on the high end. There is a reason we expect the vast majority of people to retire at the age of 70. I'm 59, and I can see such a difference in my abilities to when I was in my 30s and 40s. It is harder to learn new things, frustration levels are much lower than they used to be, multitasking is difficult, switching from one topic to another is not seamless, and on and on. Even the most healthy people I know in their 70s are remarkable not because they are the same as they were 30 years before, but because they are physically and mentally better than others in their 70s. We should elect people who are in their prime, not those who are past retirement age. So I am not pleased with Democrats mostly rallying behind Biden and Sanders, even though I prefer either guy a million times over Trump. A country of over 300 million people should be able to find a decent, smart, likeable, middle-aged person to lead the country.

I agree with everything you said here.
I liked sanders last time around but he is too old. Biden is too old. Trump is too old.
I am an ageist apparently

Bernie is still keen. Tons of video evidence to prove it.
