Fox News

The Thriller

you know, a week or so ago I read that Fox News was undergoing a transformation. With Paul Ryan on board and Donald’s numbers tanking, the article I read gave me hope that they might finally cut ties with the likes of Hannity and Dump. It gave me hope. Then Bill Barr had dinner with Rupert Murdoch two nights ago and this happened:

Imagine the outrage from the right if Eric Holder met with Jeff Zucker to get Erin Burnett or Anderson Cooper fired because they were critical of President Obama. Interesting times we live in.

Granted, we don't know if the two events are related, but the timing is suspicious.

It was abrupt
No one else seemed to know about it
He had security escort him out

Yeaahhh it’s just a coincidence. Just like the Stormy Daniels thing, Russian orphans, and “investigating corruption” in Ukraine. They’re all just coincidences.

When Chris Wallace goes I'll be completely done with the channel.

Honestly, why does he stay? It’s hannity’s Channel now. Chris could easily jump ship in the morning and land a new job at any of the major news networks by dinner.

I listened, Smith references an "agreement" that will prevent him from working as a journalist for a few years.

wink wink nudge nudge, he got a severance package which required him to go on air and give a cheerful goodbye.

I think we've seen and noticed there's been more of this animosity toward Fox in recent months. So much of his modus operandi has demanded personal loyalty. He does whatever he wants to do, tolerates no oversight, tolerates no accountability. Hard to believe we put so much power in this guy's hands. Absurd, really. Not hard to connect Barr meeting Murdoch, and this sudden departure. Barr's a piece, I don't know what his motives in supporting Trump like he has are, beyond believing in king-like power in the Executive branch. What a grab for power we're witnessing. This tweet was just from yesterday.

Between Trump's tweet calling him out, Barr's visit, and his sudden departure, it's easy to connect the dots and think he was pressured out. However, I think he was finally just fed up with working for a news organization that functions as a propaganda outlet for Trump.

Maybe Barr's meeting was the final straw, even if he wasn't aware of what the conversation was about.

There's long been tension between Fox's news division and their opinion hosts and that line just keeps blurring. And frankly, while he and Chris Wallace have done good work there, their presence on the network have mostly functioned to provide a veneer of credibility to a network that doesn't deserve one.

Yeah, I agree. The Barr meeting jumps off the page, but the internal politics, the recent acrimonious exchange between Smith and Tucker Carlson comes to mind in that regard, makes this a decision he'd been mulling over for awhile. He leaves and takes factual reporting with him.
