Official UofU homer thread

They played Western Carolina.

That doesn’t change the fact that they have a very good backup QB. Hell, they had to bench Hurts in the championship game at halftime and play a backup in Tua for the first time to win.

Backups can be just as good as starters.

You didn't answer any questions. I didn't ask who they played.
Also, didn't backup play a bit in the game tua got hurt?

What if Alabama beats Auburn by 30 this week and the backup throws for 400 yards and 5 touchdowns? Would that matter?

OU has virtually no chance. They won’t beat anyone of note to move up enough.
I think they play a Baylor team that's ranked higher than Oregon and ok state who I think it's also ranked (I could be wrong though)

Alabama should be well rested after a bye week. I’m sure they’ll come out strong.

We don't. I'm not saying Utah's resume is any better but Bama's isn't better either.
I disagree. I think they have the same account of losses but I think there is a difference between the teams that they lost too and their strength of schedules are exactly the same either.

I don't know if the people who decide this stuff weigh strength of schedule and how good or bad the losses are or not but I was under the impression that those things have at least a little weight in regards to resume.

They need to move to 8 already and put the 5 conference champs in and 3 at large....what is the point to having conferences and championship games if they don't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things?
Agreed.

They were up by 30 when Tua go hurt. That's why people were pissed when Tua got hurt because he should've been out of the game.
So what you are saying is that you don't know if the backup QB makes Alabama worse or how much worse. Like when they had tua I think the consensus was that they were a better team than the Utes. But now without tua we don't really know. They could be though. Backup QB might be a badass. Tua was an Alabama backup QB and he was pretty good.

Baylor’s ranked 11th. And OU already beat them once AT Baylor. A win at a neutral location against a team they already beat once in a crap conference isn’t gonna do much if anything.

And open up more bitching with who missed out?

11th is a better ranking than Oregon which is what I said in the post you quoted.
Also, I mentioned Oklahoma State who I also think is ranked. (Not certain if that though)

Like I said, I don’t think Utah has much of a chance unless they beat Oregon by 30.

I just don’t like hair chances either.

I think Auburn needs to beat Bama to have a good shot.

There would definitely still be bitching from 9-12. But I just want more big time games against teams that would never play otherwise.

Imagine a 4v5 matchup of Utah and Bama in SLC. Or a 3 seed Clemson vs OU.

I’ve heard about five different reasons they can’t do this...off the top of my head, I forget them all but the reasons seemed legit.

One was interference with the nfl and maybe nfl playoffs...another was the extension of the season...another was the rotation of historic bowls and the implications this would have with those...and more.

I think you have to ask the question, "is the goal to get the 4 best teams in the playoffs or conference champions?". If it's to get the 4 best teams then Alabama would have an argument to get in ahead of Utah.

Why? Alabama hasn't beaten any ranked teams all season either. If Utah beats Oregon they will at least have that, and the conference championship over Alabama. And the committee left TCU out of the playoff because they didn't have the 13th game to compare with Ohio state a few years back. Alabama won't have that either. I'd argue that Utah played the more difficult schedule compared to Alabama.

I hope you're right, but people are acting like the Iron Bowl is more or less a play in game for Bama, assuming everything else goes chalk. Georgia beating LSU hurts Bama, but in that scenario Georgia and LSU both get in, so no help there.

Auburn beating Bama, and LSU beating Georgia, and Utes are golden (they need to win out of course). In the other scenario where everything goes basically chalk, Bama will be in pre Pac-12 championship. And then the Utes really need to get a national narrative going in their favor while Bama sits at home. Blowing out Oregon would help a ton.

Not worried about OU, I don't see how they would jump the Utes at this point if both win out.
They will. 2 games to close the season against ranked opponents and they will have a potential 3 wins against ranked teams on their resume. If Oklahoma wins out they will pass Utah.

As a Ute fan, I disagree.

Even without Tua, their team has better wins. Tua was important, but Alabama just reloads and are deep.
Which wins? They haven't beat a ranked team. The only wins they'll be able to tout is Auburn if they win and TCU, and Oregon is ranked higher with less losses. Just because Alabama is in the SEC don't let that fool you. Alabama's non conference schedule is 4 teams worse than BYU. Western Carolina, New Mexico State, Duke and Southern Miss.

Alabama has defeated 2 P5 teams with a winning record. Utah has beaten 3.
