I still think in the long term that Dante playing well and being given a chance is best for both him and the Jazz.

He fits the team identity in terms of defense first, and his defense will never be predicated by his offense, same as Royce. And if he gives us a bit of offense like he did in that good stretch he had, then great.

If that means that Dante plays ahead of Mudiay long term, or with him, then that's cool too, as long as Mudiay is still playing decently well.

Stats tell us that peak Exum is likely going to get shoot in low 40's from the field, about 30% from 3 and average about 2-3 assists off the bench. He's going to generate about 10 points a game from his points/assists. Mudiay is averaging 8.5 points on 51% shooting, 30% from 3, and he's averaging 2.5 assists. Mudiay generates more points for the team from his points/assists and he does so more efficiently.

The idea that the passing is better with Dante on the floor is a fallacy.

Basically the thing that frustrates fans with Mudiay is an optic thing. He's a score first guy. He has tunnel vision at times. He looks for his shot and at times he misses an open shooter. But he makes 50% of his shots. Do you want a shot that goes in 50% of the time? Or you do want Dante on the floor because he's more likely to make the pass that leads to a pass that will lead to another pass that might get a great shot (or might lead to nothing) just because it looks better to the eye?

I'll take the 50% shot every time.

Mudiay is a career 39.8% shooter so I wouldn't be at all surprised if he ends up in the low 40's by the end of the year.

It's unfair to compare one person's entire career, but then cherry pick small sample stats for another player to prove a point, and disregard that particular player's career stats, where he has for the most part shot poorly and turned the ball over at a high rate, and has been discarded by 2 teams in his still fledgling career.
 
If we're being honest, they both suck. We just need to figure out which is the lesser of two evils.
 
Mudiay is an ISO ballhog. Exum is turnover prone, but plays like a point guard. If Exum got more playing time and Snyder didn't give him such a short leash, I'm sure he'd turn the ball over less.
 
I am not sure Exum can handle more than 6-7 minutes right now. His plays and mostly his decisions go downhill after the first few minutes.

Well he played better than Mudiay in his 11 minutes, although I certainly didn't like either players' turnover numbers.

Dante averages 1.3 Turnovers per 19 min played, so he's definitely not turnover prone.
 
Mudiay's just 3-18 over the last 3 games. A lot of the misses have been contested mid range jumpers...the kind of shots that drive coaches nuts.

last night against Toronto Dante got in, dribbled like 4 times and then there was a foul.

Camera cuts to Dante and his mouth is wide open and he’s tugging on his shorts like he’d been running wind sprints for 2.5 hrs. This was like 21 seconds of basketball and dude looked like he needed an oxygen mask.

Carry on.

It's insane. He holds his breath. You can see it when a play is over. HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO BREATHE. They need to teach him.
