Who Would You Rather Have Part 2 - Better Than Infection's

Who would you rather have

I’d be almost shocked if we signed him. I’m sure Detroit will off him something like 3/40, maybe 3/45 even.

@infection I'm pretty sure I'm going full Niko for Wood... I know how this ends... you don't have to tell me. Sometimes you just have to experience the heartbreak/loss yourself.

I think if Wood was on a winning team the perspective on him would be totally different. It's not like he just scores on put backs...

He can shoot the three.
Has a face up game where he can shoot over guys.
He drives from the top of the key when bigs come out too far and can go over/through them when he's close to the hoop.
He can finish on the pick and roll with a lob or a bounce pass (he's one of the best roll men in the league right now).
He gets to the free throw line at a high, high rate.
He can do some good things on defense as a shot blocker... his team is much better defensively when he is on the court and the advanced metrics all love him. He's a good rebounder.

I think I'd get laughed at by some by saying he's a full MLE guy no questions asked. I'd rather have Wood than say Jerami Grant... and I think most would say Grant is worth at least the full MLE.

It's gonna hurt when we end up signing JaMychal Green instead of this guy... sigh.

We could offer 4/43m (full MLE). We could also negotiate a sign and trade. We could give him a player option in year 3 or 4 of a deal and make it competitive. The problem is as @infection has laid out... we won't be that aggressive. We might not even kick the tires and will go the more conservative, proven, route... problem is scared money don't make none.

I think he would pick us over Detroit if money was close. Its a miserable situation going through a tank the next few years... they have super low attendance and you are kind of in NBA Siberia.

They might go high and do 4/60M... again some will say it's crazy, but compare him to Aaron Gordon... his numbers are so much better... and Aaron got more than that and people say its a bargain.

I think his pedigree, small sample size, and being in a losing situation will push his market value down. I'm interested to see where he lands and what he gets.

Jerami Grant is nice and he’s really stepped up his three point shooting (at least by percentage), but he rebounds for ****. I mean, seriously, Jeff Green outrebounds him. Per minute he’s about equal with Ingles and only slightly better than Bojan. Mudiay is a better rebounder.

But yeah... Wood gives you enough size that Gobert/Wood matches up with any big front court, and he’d fit perfect in the Favors role (starting at the 4 but getting all the backup 5 minutes).

If we get Wood, I’ll bump your Wood thread. But you’ll need to go to the ER after 4 hours.

Gonna predict right now we sign Patrick Patterson. He feels like a Jazz signing.

Edit: I feel really confident about this. He’s cheap, a vet, can hit the 3, rebounds better than Green or Niang, and I think is a good locker room guy. I doubt the Clips reup him.

Last summer if we didn’t have Exum occupying his salary, I wanted Marcus Morris >> JaMychael Green >>>> Patrick Patterson. Funny that they all ended up on the Clippers. I’m hoping, but not expecting, that we can do better than Patterson.

Basically, DL is gonna make a small list of dudes and get tunnel vision.

Hot take:

Jerry West is going to land Wood.

For the FO, PP will make sense because if Brantley and/or Morgan develop and we HAVE to play them, PP likely won’t become disenfranchised. But if he plays well, sweet. God forbid we went for the ****ing homeroom to try to win it all and didn’t worry about Brantley or Morgan or Bradley.

Not sure if serious. If so, where have you been with all our Wood discussion in the past couple months?
I was serious.
What thread has he been discussed frequently? Trade deadline one?

I don't jazzfanz as much anymore or even watch the jazz games ever since I changed jobs (and shifts) at work

HH started a thread a month or so ago and he’s been discussed quite a bit. He’s like 6’10” and scores and shoots and rebounds and plays defense. He’s a poor man’s AD. But more importantly you need a new job. I’m sure we could start a gofundme and float you for a couple weeks.
