Buyout Options

This is also why the “we will be active in the buyout market” was hilarious. You think finding trades with limited assets is hard... go ahead and try to sign guys that can go to LA or Miami for the same money... hell even Texas is tax free. We are at a pretty heavy competitive disadvantage.
But if the Jazz were really serious about going after somebody they could put in a waiver claim before he reaches the free agent market. So their claim of being active just seems disingenuous to me. I mean unless of course we’re still waiting for particular buyouts.

I think in order for the jazz to sign some of these buy out candidates they have to pass through wavers because I think we are up against the cap. Once the player clears wavers they have to want to come here

We really can't though... we'd need cap space or an exception... we'd also have to pay them the contract amount rather than the minimum.

there is honestly like 2-3 buyout guys I'd even want so its no big deal imo. The trade deadline was our opportunity and it is gone.

I suppose you are right that we couldn’t even afford the buyout price for most of these guys without going over the cap.

Reggie Jackson sucks. Every minute he plays is a minute that Lou Will, Shamet or Pat Bev doesn't.

This is a win for every top team in the west BUT the Clippers lol.
I wouldn’t doubt that the only reason they signed him was to block the Lakers as I hear Collison is not coming out of retirement.

Was a weird choice by him tbh. I think some of these guys might be able to boost FA value if they showed they were functional on a team like the Lakers. Jackson will get some run because Beverly has been nicked up and needs rest. Maybe Reggie just wants to take it easy or maybe they promised him a deal next year... strange choice on his part.

The difference being Conley has been a great a player in the past and Reggie Jackson has always been a scrub.
A scrub who average 13+4+3 in his career for which he spent near half of the time as a sub? Conley had a better career but he averaged 15+6+3 while being a starter for the majority of his career. The difference here isn't that great. Reggie Jackson at his prime was in the league’s top 10 PG category, where I'd also put Conley. Except Conley was able to outlast Jackson.

Suns are officially the worst/craziest team in the NBA. They think they are going to grab the 8th seed. I mean all they got to do is climb up out of that 12th spot and pass up the Pelicans, Spurs, Blazers and Grizzlies. Ugh. Hopefully, the can figure out that they are not a playoff team yet before March 1st, and let Baynes go somewhere (Utah) and have a shot at something before his career is over.

Any way of bringing Big Al out of retirement? I’ve heard that he can no longer break a bull’s neck with his bare arms, but chicken necks he can.

I think if we make the WCF or make the second round and lose to the Lakers (but win a game or more) or lose to the Clips (and win two games or more), we’ve had a successful season.

I mean, Lebron is gonna be 36 in December. How many more years can he play at such a high level?

You don't want to play the wait it out game though... you wait out one awesome team or player and a new one forms. Warriors are dead... now you gets Lebron and the clips for a year or two... then the Mavs or Zion are ready to take over. Lakers and Clips are vulnerable/beatable... hell the stacked Warriors missed out on two championships they probably could have won.

I think your assessment of the team was correct... we are a second round team hopefully. With some bracket/playoff luck we make a run like Portland... if Clips and Lakers are healthy I think both teams likely beat us. I think there are 3 real contenders... and like 5-6 Darkhorse teams... we'd be in the Darkhorse group.

Yeah, I didn’t mean that way. Just saying like we’re really ****ing close to being elite. If we add a legit stretch 4 this off-season (and ****ing Udoh), I see no reason we can’t win it all over the next 3-4 seasons. Especially if Lebron is even older.

For sure. I know its only like 20 rotation minutes in the playoffs, but doing something there goes a long way. I hope we try to find a power stretch wing or stretch 4 that adds more diversity to what we can do... its why I wanted Christian Wood so much... could start him at 4 with Rudy and he can shoot it and you can hang with the big teams... use him as a backup 5 stretch option with bench units... helps shift up and down if need be.

Its exciting to be in a place where we can say 1 or 2 solid rotation pieces and we are right there... but it sucks to kinda know we don't have those pieces now and have no real way to get them.

I'd be willing to settle for just signing Noah and Gasol. Or trade Davis and Bradley for Aminu. Of course, I'd love to have Wood, but realistically I think grabbing Gasol and Noah/Aminu is about the top of the upgrades we will get this summer. Could be less.

It's almost like we are a "don't blow all of our assets and cap space on a washed up PG" away from being a contender. Hopefully, our front office realizes this over the summer and tries to make something happen. Mitchell should be at PG with Ingles helping with the PG duties from SF.
