2020 Playoffs

My prediction is that the rest of the regular season will be cancelled and we will go straight to the playoffs. East 8th seed Orlando has a 5.5 game lead on the field and West 8th seed Memphis has a 3.5 game lead on the field. There really is no reason to play out the season other than seeding.

When the playoffs start, we will host OKC as the 4 seed. LAL vs Memphis, LAC vs Dallas, and Houston vs Denver. My guess is that the playoffs will start about the time they were scheduled to start.

While I’m with you on more clarity within a couple weeks, if there’s still quarantining, that would push things back further. I’m guessing at least a month.

Sounds like a couple months... makes sense... summer doldrums came early this year.

I agree. Cuban was talking today about how tv contracts can be reworked so they could actually play over the summer.

My guess is that the playoffs start in May with the current standings.

Looking at something like the Premier League in England i think there is 5 games remaining and the bottom 3 get relegated to the championship (second division) millions of pounds are a stake, if they called the season now it would end up in the courts.

4 weeks effectively ends the season and the players won't want this to cut into their summer.

As little time as there is left in the season realistically...at about 20 games left, 3-4 games per week, 6 weeks maybe... Just checked and we have 5 weeks left. At that point there is a high likelihood imo that we don't see another regular season game.

I wonder how they would decide the remaining schedule if they do start back up, or would they just pick right up where the season would be once they get started again. So if this lasts say 3 weeks our "next" game would be maybe Jazz @ Nuggs on the 5th of April. So we miss maybe 13 games, including the OKC game, which leaves us with 5 games to end the regular season at that point. I would bet the 3 week timeline is the very best case scenario we would see. This thing is realistically just getting started. It's still mostly in the coastal areas without much penetration into the landlocked states. At the rate of spread now we could see everything locked down for a couple of months. At what point do they simply drop the entire season for the NBA?

Or will they play out the playoffs in empty stadiums?

This is insane.
