Here’s how this probably goes. Both are fully over this a few weeks from now. Donovan is over it at that point, but Rudy isn’t quite over his teammate throwing gas on a flaming dumpster fire of embarrassment and hate that was already plenty hot and burning.

I'm full of sympathy for Rudy in this situation. The most problematic thing about this thing is Covid seems to be mild or even asymptomatic most of the time. Facing the same dilemma in my household at the moment. Any little niggle you'd normally not think twice about has you questioning whether or not you should be showing up to work tomorrow. It's really hard to make that decision when the data points are so minute. The microphone touching thing was a bit of a bad look, but c'mon. He didn't know that he was sick, and it's virtually impossible to trace where that transmission came from. Must be surreal for him to be patient zero in the NBA. Now isn't the time for bullying or conjecture.
I recall saying this in my other thread so many of you hate in regards to Donovan. It’s easy to be a leader when everything’s going well, but what happens when things are not going so well?
Quite honestly reading his IG post it almost seems like his agent or PR cooked it up. It seems so perfectly put together to a point I’m not even sure it was him who wrote it.

Donovan has no issue furthering it by subtly sticking that line in his IG post (if he even wrote it). So I think I’m good on a random forum. Haven't seen it. Where do I go? Love Donovan but he can be sophomoric at times. Just my two cents, but if it came down to a coup I'd rather have Rudy on my team. This kind of posturing seems absurd to me in the unrestful times the league is in.
Edit:OK checked out his instagram like the real millennial that I technically am. Didn't see anything controversial there, or am I missing something?

Not reading too much into that personally. I agree the tone of the IG wasn't completely unambiguous. Would love to see him absolve Rudy as we are pretty much chickens with our heads cut of as of how to deal with this. Assigning blame is irresponsible. I think we are mostly on the same page.

My real full thoughts here are that Instagram post is such well put together bullsh**, like just read it. It’s too perfectly put together to not have been written by his PR/agent team. Donovan could have been the one who gave it to Rudy, but Rudy’s getting eaten alive and stories already headed in that direction. So you throw that tweet out which implies again it’s Rudy’s fault. Then Donovan’s team “leaks” to Woj how “teammates were unhappy with how seriously Rudy was taking things”.....Oni tweeted earlier how the media just takes things and runs with it. He deleted that, then later tweeted again “Rudy slander will not be tolerated”......Mudiay is showing support. Royce is showing support.....Niang is showing support one social media. Donovan has shown absolutely no support for Rudy in any way shape or form. You’re telling me Miya Oni can tweet support but DONOVAN ****ING MITCHELL the face of the franchise can’t? Donovan’s PR team saw this going one direction and kept it going that direction. Whether it was Donovan himself or just his team advising him to keep the blame headed Rudy’s direction, it’s what has happened.
That IG post, was not written by Donovan, it’s perfectly put together like PR bull crap, and someone is feeding Woj his information. Woj is the best source in sports people he’s not risking his name for some gossip without a reliable source feeding him this info, and I am pretty confident judging by all the little tid-bits it’s Donovan’s camp doing it. It was heading in the blame Rudy for being irresponsible direction and they kept it going that way, even as Utah media who are around every day have repudiated those claims, and keep the idea of Donovan being patient 0 who canceled all sports off the radar and paint him as the victim who got exposed and infected by a wreck-less teammate

This is going to be a big defining moment for Don & Rudy's Jazz career imo. It's going to either bring them closer or absolutely destroy the relationship to the point of no return. Everyone and their mother knows what Rudy did at the press conference was idiotic but hindsight is 20/20. No one was making a big deal about it at the time but now he is being ostracized by the entire sports world. I think the biggest thing is the silence from Don.
Now would seem like the best time to have each others back and not point fingers at least not to the public via Woj. I’m sure Donovan is a bit upset, and his agent and PR team did a great job making sure he was the victim of a wreck-less teammate and not put in question as to whether he was actually the one who transferred it to Rudy. Like the perfectly put together long IG post with just one little subtle line to point it in Rudy’s direction. Feeding Woj info....I mean lol
Rudy is being treated like the biggest POS in the world because of a dumb moment in a 5 second clip. Donovan’s not taking near the heat, people are actually quite supportive of him.
I actually think Donovan’s team purposely kept this story spinning in one direction.....which is wild and just plain sad. Shams even reported Donovan had been sitting by Rudy on the bus, in the plane....like if you’re so worried Donovan that Rudy was being so reckless why are you sitting by him days before and the day of. Donovan’s team really made sure the sh** kept flying Rudy’s way so the question never got asked....if it was Mitchell who actually had it first and was being a bit less cautious than he should have been.

Oneye I think I get where you are coming from and my annoyance is coming from the same place. Read into your posts some things I shouldnt have. While I wouldn't completely put it past him to have some help, I dunno Don is a pretty loquacious guy. I think he's fully capable of putting out a mostly well thought out statement even though it has that little wrinkle, but Im not as fully convinced as you that it was malicious. As I've stated Im on Rudy's team here if they are getting pushy shovey walk the plankey. Again, the contemplative "who's on the roster", although Im not sure if thats what you were getting at or not, is an odd thing to be thinking about while the fallout of this thing isnt completely understood. It doesnt seem like Rudy and Donovan had a rift before this. They seem like they were very very close... At least based on the fact that they are the only two on the team with it. What kind of extra contact were they having? Most have been close contact.

dude I don’t agree with that much of what you post. But I’ve read this exactly the same as you. I thought his IG post was clearly at best a subtle dig at Rudy’s attempt at mucking around, at worst a full on slap at him. Prob somewhere in the middle.
I’ll be pretty stunned and disappointed if Don doesn’t wholeheartedly forgive him and patch things up when this blows over. Dumb as Rudy can be at times I’ve never had any cause to doubt his sincerity and I take his apology and word at face value as 100% genuine. Donovan I’m not sure I accept what he says is what he really thinks quite a bit.
if he doesn’t come out and support Rudy and use this as a learning / bonding thing, I’d this fracture turns out to be a permanent split I’m done with Donovan. I think we’ve all done and said dumb things at times it I think Rudy is 100 % an excellent human who deserves the benefit of the doubt

I don't think either of them gave the virus to each other. I think they contracted it on a road trip and it didn't show signs of life until this recent fiasco. With all of the contact they have with opposing players and fans not to mention every player touching the same ball over and over and grabbing and pushing each other for positions, it makes more sense that it was contracted by one of those means.

Man people love to create drama. This is DW vs Jerry or Jerry vs AK or AK vs DW. Players and people don't always get along but DM and Rudy will work it out. I don't get this Rudy and DM hated each other before this. They did commercials together and I always heard each other praise the other guy. Rudy acted foolishly but he didn't know he was infected at the time. He apologized for acting immaturely but he isn't the first nor was he the last.
