Jazz fans are a very loyal fanbase. So I’m curious of a hypothetical. Toronto traded Derozan for 1 year of Kawhi. I actually think fans here are quite loyal to certain players even though we have our normal fan discussions of their strengths and weaknesses.

Donovan is probably the most interactive and involved player with this community in 3 years that the franchise has ever had. He does a lot for both the franchise and our community. He definitely can approach and be the most loved sports figure, and probably just one of the most loved public figures of all time here if he sticks around a long time.

So here’s my question. Let’s say you had these two choices.

Option 1–Have Donovan spend his career here and as a part of our community and you might win a title but it’s not guaranteed.

Option 2–Be guaranteed 1 title next season, but Donovan is traded to obtain it.

Which would you chose? Try to keep answers simple.

I'd rather have 10 seasons of playoffs and being competitive but never winning it versus having 1 special season that ends in a title and missing the playoffs the other 9 seasons.
Not necessarily the answer to your question but I think titles are overrated for fans.
I agree with this. One team wins the championship. And championships aren’t all created equal. Would I throw away the 18 and 19 seasons of Stockton and Malone for one title? Nah. And I’d rather have Donovan in our community for 15 or 16 years and have a chance at winning it than just winning one. It does matter to me how the title comes as well.

Honestly, I would take #2.

It's just tough to compete against super teams and especially those in large markets. We're just not going to attract top-shelf FA's.

You have to go with option 2 even though it would be a bit bittersweet. Championships are just too hard to come by and require a lot of luck. As much as I would love to keep Donovan, you choose the guaranteed chip every time.

That’s something a loser would say.

I get that a banner/title is the point of being a sports fan. I just don’t know. 15-16 years of someone like Donovan in our community would be worth more to me than a title from something like the Kawhi situation. It’s just a piece of cloth and metal. It’s kind of funny how dumb being so fanatic over sports is lol. I want a title badly, and I think there’s a shot at one with Donovan as well.

I've had an entire lifetime of that. I'll try the championship route and be happy whatever happens after that.

Ya but Donovan is not the only player on the jazz. Sure the kahwi player wouldn't mean as much to me but I love Rudy and Joe and the other guys too

Meh, I'm a Buccs fan and they won the Super Bowl in 2003 and have been dog **** since. Doesn't feel any better.
Everyone here is right that a title is hard and almost impossible to win in a small NBA market.....which is why I agree with you. If we’re going to win one, I want the title of you do win, to be worth it and have full meaning.

Agreed, they’re both great. But I’d like to see Donovan have a Dame to Portland type relationship with SLC. Like if I could trade all those years of Stockton and Malone for 1 title and 2 decades of suck-age. I’d choose the 2 decades of Stockton and Malone excellence any day. That may be how I should have framed this.

Maybe we would have had other beloved players though if we didn't have Stockton and Malone.
Me personally, I'm a jazz fan. Not just a particular player or couple of players fan.

Honestly getting players that are truly committed to this community is almost as elusive as a title lol. Stockton and Malone were one of a kind especially during that time period. SLC has changed a lot since then but I find it hard to believe you would have found guys more committed to the franchise than those two were. Especially then. Now I’m mad I didn’t frame the question around them lol.

Created my account specifically to give input here. Long time lurker, first time poster. I’d chose Donovan honestly. I’ve watched him at a high school game before and the amount of time he’s willing to take to make a kids night. Even Stockton and Malone weren’t that deeply involved, although they are probably most responsible for a lot of us having the deep fandom we do and the fact the Jazz are still in Utah. A titled nice. 15-20 years of a stand up person and great role model in our community is worth more to me. I’ll ride or die with the guy, and hopefully the Jazz and he can also find a way to win a championship because this franchise and fanbase really do deserve it.

2. It’s a no-brainer.
This. And anyone who votes differently is not a true fan of the franchise. If they are a Donovan fan that's fine but that's not a true Utah Jazz fan.

Now, if this is meant to say we will win 1 championship and guaranteed to never win another, then I pick option 1. Because I'd rather have the chance at multiple rings then get 1 knowing we never get another one.
