Off-season 2020 Conley Trade Ideas

BTW, is anyone else hoping to watch a "Mike Conley resurrection" during the playoffs or it's just me?
We'd all love to see that. I don't think anyone is expecting it though.

We've been over this a gazillion times. The ONLY trade that makes any kind of sense for the Jazz is for CP3. If that's not happening (and it is most likely not) then there is nothing to talk about.

The chance that Mike Conley figures it out here is a far better return than anything in any other realistic trade. Period. We are trying to be f****** great. Not average.

Conley wasn't even our main roster problem this year. The bench was. Clarkson no doubt helped but we still have issues there. We need a more versatile backup 4/5 pairing. Niang and Bradley just aint gonna get it done. They are so limited it's painful.

Mitchell/Rudy/Bogey are good enough to be the top 3 on a champion if Mitchell takes another step forward in progression and it's a reasonable expectation that he will. We're basically asking Conley to be our 4th, 5th maybe even 6th best player. If we think reasonably and not just on the recency bias of this season alone I think logic will lead us to believe that the odds are good that he can do that.

Exactly, we made a gamble and either we live with it or we gamble once more on CP3 which would be even higher risk/reward situation. I just don't see the FO willing to do that.

The problem is that Conley shifts our otherwise best lineups down a size, he has made a career of having the ball in his hands EVERY possession, he's lost a step, and he's debilitatingly expensive. If he's his best I'm still not sure the Jazz would be better with him in the net. It is just a bad fit.

I guess the good news is there is one less player to feed possessions to so we'll need Conley for this joke of a remainder of a season.

This... if he was raising the ceiling of the offense then shifting down is not a big deal. We are better offensively and defensively with Ingles in Conley's place. JC is a better bench scoring option too.

Let's say it doesn't get a lot better next year... he won't stick around at a discount... So he leaves and we won't really have cap space. This is a situation where a quick pivot (if anything decent is out there) makes a ton of sense, but we likely drive it into the ground because we made a gamble and are going to stick with it.

You guys gotta prepare yourselves for the “this is Utah, we resurrect old *** players” narrative. “Conley hasn’t had time here to really get into what the training staff can give him.” He’s bound to improve light years.

Because he’s a “great dude” the Jazz choose not to trade him to a place he doesn’t want to go. He then sucks *** again next year and leaves for nothing. Worst case - even though he’s a “great dude”, he still chooses to talk about how he hated it here.

Okc to get out of Paul’s contract?
Read a bleacher report about trades teams should do. They had this as a deal for the jazz. Ed Davis and Conley with a second round pick for CP3. If that’s all we have to give, sign me up. They even said this deal would clear cap space for the clips once Conley and Ed expire.

I could be more ignorant on the CBA than I thought, but I’d be pretty surprised if that put the Clippers under the cap.

I didn't put a CP3 deal because I dont want to see that considered. CP3 just makes too much money.

Remember, the premise of this thread is built around a shrinking cap and our FO need to shed money if they can. That's why expirings like Snell, Batum and others are being considered. The Philly deal is in there because I think it's more unpredictable.

Just an FYI... from what I understand the cap next year will be similar to the projected number given already... so it won't be changed from its projection much. The following year there will be a decline and they could do some "smoothing" to make it not a giant decline.

Under that scenario I do think Philly would be interested in moving on from Harris... they have like $150M committed that year already.

If I thought we could get close enough to give us a title shot by trading for CP I'd have done it earlier this year. Now... IDK... Losing the playoff run this year sucks... who knows if he sticks with his diet and conditioning.
