Conley Benched

You start Conley. If he is outmatched and Denver takes advantage, pull him. Give him the confidence of the start, and let him take Niang and Mudiay's minutes. Will be a net positive.

Jazz defense could be better with Conley. He can roam off Craig. He can cause disruption. He gives someone who can stay attached to Murray on the perimeter if they need him to guard him. He's a guy who has a career 3.6 BPM in playoff games.

Wake me up when Mike Conley’s career stats have any relevance to his actual impact on a game while wearing a Jazz uniform. I’ve waited too long.

Conley can switch off of Torey Craig to double wherever he needs to.

Conley--> Craig
Mitchell--> Porter
Royce --> Murray
Ingles --> Millsap
Gobert --> Jokic

Jazz opened with this against Denver 10 days ago and won the 1st quarter 29-15. Make Denver beat this lineup, then adjust if you have to.

That's 4 shooters playing off of Rudy screens, and 3 guys who can create with Rudy in pick-and-roll. One of those guys is Mitchell, who is averaging 44 ppg in the series.

We were up 15-7 when Mike checked out... Jokic was basically sleep walking the whole first half... How did that lineup do in the second half? -7 in the 3rd quarter and -4 in the 4th (which includes DM's end game heroics).

We were up 17-11 when Morgan checked out the first quarter today... He was +3 in the third with the starting lineup.

Whatever Juwan is doing is working. Could Conley make it better... sure. The matchups you outline above will not work though. Ingles isn't good against stronger guys and Craig gonna get in on the glass too... DM giving up a ton of height and is not the most attentive box out guy.

This. Morgan shifts the rest of the defenders to better matchups. It lets Royce go Mad Dog on some perimeter player. And he can take reps against Jokic.

How are those guys going to guard us? They can't at all lmao. Now you have Royce in the corner instead of Morgan swinging to a wide open Mike Conley after Mitchell drives to start the blender.

Jazz are being given a golden ticket for game 3. Start Conley and throw off Denver's ability to make adjustments. Anything they do is going to involve trying to take the ball out of Mitchell's hands. We are going to need Conley.

Millsap is averaging 6.5 ppg in the series. If he wants to post up Ingles with Gobert providing help in drop coverage, then let him.
Make Millsap guard Joe on the perimeter on the other end. Millsap didn't bother to guard Juwan Morgan much today.
Torey Craig is averaging 5.5 ppg in the series and was scoreless today on 2 shots. Today the Jazz completely ignored him.
Conley can switch off Craig and harass Jokic when Jokic is on the perimeter.
Royce is able to handle Murray one on one. That's a win.
Porter will shoot over Mitchell, but Mitchell can get into him and try to make him put the ball down. Lets see what Porter can do when he's forced to dribble and pass.

If this doesn't work, then fine, you can put Juwan Morgan back in. The rest of Conley's minutes will come from Mudiay, Niang and a bit from Clarkson.

With Craig and Millsap being limited scorers, the Jazz can switch and trap all over the floor, playing 5 on 4. We should have learned this from Houston by now.

We do need Conley... but instead of Joe making plays it will be Mike... how much better does that make us? The offense should be better... I think it will be... but not by as much as it will hurt the defense (at least in that lineup configuration). Mike is our third best playmaker... why does he need to be on the floor at the same time as the other 2 to start the game?

I'd rather be wrong and win... so hopefully you are right here.

I feel like no one has ever watched Joe guard the post... he will get in foul trouble and millsap will eat him up. Rudy gonna drop off Jokic to help? please.

Royce will guard Millsap in that lineup... Joe will guard Murray.

We might be so good offensively that it doesn't matter, but taking the ball out of Joe's hands has not been great for us this year.

Its working but mastermind Mike Malone has adjustments coming that will totally exploit it... just wait. Starting Mike is the only way to get the best out of him and this roster. Do you know how much he is paid? did you see what he did 5 years ago in the playoffs.... LMAO u guis is stoopid dumm

Joe is one of the best 3pt shooters camping out in the corner in the league. What he's also good at is using his size to get passing angles to deliver Gobert the ball in screen/roll.

If that's the case, then fine, give Joe the ball and have Mike Conley camp in the corner instead. He's a great corner shooter too.

It just gives the Jazz all kinds of options and makes Denver's defense have to guard all 5 guys all the time.

You have to understand, the Nuggets are one of the worst 3pt defenses in the league, and now you have the opportunity to put another quality 3pt shooter on the floor to take advantage of it. Plus you've got another triple-threat guy with the ball in his hands who can make Denver overcommit on some defensive rotation that they suck at.

The Jazz really should win 2 of the next 3 games in the series.

Does anyone know what diminishing returns are? It’s great to have another shooter on the court but when you are getting almost any 3 point shot you want from equivalent shooters then adding one more doesn’t necessarily give you a huge added benefit. As we face tougher defenses this will be something we need.

We need more size and defense imo. Morgan has been doing that fine and has made enough shots to survive.

This. It makes a lot more sense to bring Conley off the bench as the primary ball handler, let Clarkson roam, and allow the starting lineup to continue as it stands. That's the biggest bang for our buck. Starting Conley fixes a problem we don't have and creates a bunch of new ones. Frankly bringing him off the bench to run in Mitchell's spot puts the very most pressure on Denver's D.
