What's new

Players only meeting.

I love it when white people who’ve never experienced racism in their life feel the need to tell black people how to feel and how to act.

How about you take a step back and listen to the people talking about it and who have experienced it.

It’s also comical the people who say just listen to the cops and obey orders. They are the same ones who won’t wear a mask because it’s infringing on their freedom. Just so stupid.
Its like they don't believe black people. Like they making this **** up. I've been so sheltered and started having these convos the last few months. Shocked at how insensitive and unsympathetic people are.

I was up in Tahoe and saw a couple police officers walking the beach... they were handing out stickers and talking to kids and stuff... was super cool, but made me think. My whole damn life i've been taught to run to the cops if there was an issue... they would provide safety for me and i do think they would. Then I thought as a parent what if my kids were black and the opposite was true? It literally hit me like a ton of bricks.

There's a lot of hypocritical stuff to call out when it comes to racism...but being called a bitch *** white boy on a basketball court is nothing.

Dude has never played a pickup game of basketball in his life. I’ve been called many different forms of that all including the words white boy and not once have I ever felt like it was racist or felt offended lmao. Because guess what... its not. Shocker.

What would you like them to do... because he was called on it and apologized. Is that enough for you? It was for Luka...

Ironically a guy I played with 10+ years ago used to call me white chocolate.

Lol that is awesome. You have handles or just a straight up baller?

Wait... white chocolate has the word white in it. I think he was being low key racist. What do you think?

You cannot really believe that the primary motivation of billionaires is anything but money.

Maybe yes, maybe no. For some it's money, others power, some are just hard workers and the money comes as a consequence of that. Some are just lucky, some gather the money to do good in the world, some might be straight up crooks. Most don't inherit it though. Stop pretending that you have a crystal ball and know everyone's motivations and that you understand everything about them or their lives. Hell, everyone needs to do this on all sides.

You’re an even bigger piece of **** than I thought.

But addressing your point, where do you think such a tragic tradition comes from? If you don’t think it’s a systemic issue, you have to attribute it to something else and I’m wondering what you think that is.

My wondering is rhetorical, by the way. Stunning display of ignorance made all the more inexcusable by flexing your age as though it were wisdom.
Exactly how I thought you would reply.
You need to loose the black hoodie and grow up.
It doesn't matter where or how those things came from, all that matters is that people respect and listen to each other and fix the damn problems.

Now why don't you go beat up somebody who disagrees with your views, or burn a small business, I'm sure you will feel much better about yourself and then you can come tell everyone how superior you are.

I am in sacramento so I think it just came out. I had to shoot a ton on that team because it was older guys and I was in my 20s... I'd literally have 20 at half and the guys would be like "we need you to be more aggressive looking for your shot". It was pretty damn fun.

If boycotts can work, why not strikes?

When I think of a boycott, potential users of a good or service joining together and deciding not to use that service. So for instance, a group of people boycotting a baker who refuses to make a cake for a gay couple. Without question, this can raise awareness (of the baker's bigotry) and potentially change the baker's stance, or put him/her out of business altogether. This absolutely can work.

When I think of a strike, I think of labor unions or a group of employees fighting for their rights as employees. They want better pay, hours, or something to that extent.

I'm trying to understand how basketball players are in either of these categories. If its the second category, maybe they are "striking" to force owners to donate to social justice movements? Seems strange, since that hasn't been the message so far. Also, players could do this themselves (donate time, money, etc.). Or they are they are "striking" against consumers of their product? "Striking" against police departments? It's not really the same thing.

Maybe this all happened so quick that the players themselves are still trying to figure out what they are trying to accomplish. Maybe it will lead to something positive, but I'm still trying to understand it, personally.

Nothing better than teammates encouraging you to shoot when you’re the obvious best shooter on the team.

People don’t accidentally make and keep billions of dollars. Let’s be real.

I went full Jordan Clarkson. I also shot better when I knew they weren't judging. Its not how I like to play all the time but for a while it was fun.

I'm so surprsied that race relations are worse than in the 80s when i was a kid, my last employer the African employees were the majority and you were more likely to be made salary if you were black, this was to appease the auditing agency the "joint comisssion" Absolultely true story but "racism" against caucausians doesn't exists? Doesn't fit the narrative so I KNOW y'all don't like that truth.
Wow, what an incredible struggle that must have been. Not sure what black people are complaining about. You've felt the cold sting of racism worse than anyone, ever.

Thank you for speaking your truth. So brave.

I think they resume play in a day or two but this pause is already causing action in Cleveland and the Rockets owner is opening the arena as a voting site. This could be a big win without the major issues.

These dudes are smart, talented, and helping others... get behind them and follow their lead.

Trying to claim reverse racism is hurtful and there is no empirical evidence of it.

You pretending to be a victim when you're not only causes more problems. Some individual might think less of you for being white, but you aren't facing societal issues and the benefits you receive far outweigh anything else.

Don't equate things that aren't the same.
I'm not saying they are the same at all. Never did. My example was that we have a divided country. We have divided communities. Until we stop judging people beforehand based on their appearance, we will continue to stay divided.

That's what this is all about right? We are all tired of black people being abused by cops. It has to stop. A cop needs to treat every single person the same. That type focus has to happen at every level.

I don't care if somebody calls me an old white dude while we hoop. I know others would be upset by it. It shouldn't exist either way.

Growing up in Utah I honestly didn't know one black person growing up. All my familiarity came with moving out and serving a mission in NorCal then moving out here and playing basketball. The coolest thing looking back... they always gave me the benefit of the doubt even though I know they had experienced forms of racism from people that looked like me they whole life. I never felt like they looked at me differently. Have made some great lifelong friends.
